cubic foot bags Home Depot sells, 12 cubic yards would amount to about
165-170 bags. I buy the equivalent of 100 bags a year to recover our
planting beds. Unless you are covering your entire lot, leaving no room
for grass, you aren't spreading 12 cubic yards or anything close to it."

Is The John lying again?
Seems like he just can't help himself.
.....

Don he may have miscalculated but I can't see what John just out and out lied about.. . Mulch?

I might be blind but I haven't known John to lie about anything. Maybe y'all know something I don't...

It could be that Donnee was simply trying to appease Harry, just like he does with his drinking
accusations directed at Bill.

I'm sure he doesn't lie to you Tim, but he sure does take delight in constantly throwing that term at other posters.
Maybe he's lying when he does that.

Do you think Tim and I have a different 'rec.boats' than you do? He sees the same posts you do,
Donnee.

You say, "...throwing that term at other posters." What other 'posters' (plural). I can think of
only one, Krause, who has been caught repeatedly in lies.

Are there more? Or are you just making up another story?

We see those also. But our city allows the day labor to congregate there.
And no riots have ensued.

It is just something we do not see here. I am not sure where people
get their day labor but it is not from people hanging out at the BORG.
We just know guys we can call but I think for most folks, they grab
the hefe from their landscape crew and he hooks them up. I know that
is how my neighbors do it.
Once you get a phone number or two and a good reputation with those
guys, if they can't help you, they have a cousin or neighbor who can.
That goes from simple grunt labor to masons, roofers and drywall guys.
The plasterer we got to stucco the inside walls of the new room made
it look like skim coated drywall.

Difference is we are a city of 74000 with similar population densities
around us. So lots of day labor required.

Actually Ft Myers is 74k too. We do have a lot of other cities around
that are almost as big tho. This is a patchwork of little kingdoms
with rural areas outside city limits.
Construction is a big enough industry here that we run at a very high
labor participation rate among latinos. Add to that 150 gated
communities with country clubs, kitchens and golf courses. Then you
have the fact that about 2/3ds of the people have a landscape company
doing their yard. Most folks have an "in" with the latino community if
they just ask around a little. Just use a little respect.
Just about anyone who actually wants to work, has a day job and all
the work they want off hours.
Nobody in their right mind will hire a renta drunk from a day labor
company when they can get a latino. The people we see with the "will
work for food" signs will give you the finger and run away if you
actually offer them a job.

Are these all illegals you people are hiring?
Are they all working in the underground economy?
Are we adding 11,000,000 people to the economy that aren't paying taxes?
How many of those are on the dole also?
My daughter worked at a landscape company that brought in Puerto Ricans,
no paperwork hassles, they worked hard, and most went back home in the
off season, then returned the next year.

You obviously don't know too many Mexicans. Here in south Florida
they are some of the hardest working people you'd ever want to meet.

May have told this before,
I have a friend that has an ICE plant, bagging, delivery business, he
also does marine construction. He had T shirts made that say ICE down
the front. He stopped at a job site of a one of his contractor friends.
10 people ran out the back and jumped over the fence.
His contractor friend was not very happy and suggested he never come
to his job site wearing that T shirt again.

Anyone with a business is not going to hire someone who can't pass
E-Verify unless they don't want to be in business very long.
I also reject the idea that illegals do not pay taxes unless they are
working off the books and again, this will not usually be a person who
wants to stay in business. You might not be afraid if ICE but you
better fear IRS. They are the ones with the resources to find you.

That is not to say illegals do not have papers good enough to trick
E-Verify but the government still catches up to them eventually. Then
all the tax money FICA etc is simply forfeited to Sammy.
These folks are still not going to be able to get their SS/MC unless
they are legal. For a long time IRS/SSA was not even pursuing them.
All that happened was the employer got a letter saying they had a
suspect SSN, check your records nut "DO NOT USE THIS LETTER AS A
REASON TO TERMINATE THE EMPLOYEE". They knew this person was paying
taxes but they also knew they would not get SS.

I knew a Hispanic game warden years ago. She told the story of being a
young girl with a migrant labor group when ICE showed up. Most ran, so she
did also. Got home, and mom chewed her out. She was born here, a citizen
and should have stayed to help.
