But, after all, it was a joke.

I had a Mexican over yesterday to do some yard work. His helper failed to show. So he and I spread about 12 cubic yards of mulch. He busted my ass, but gave me $100 for helping, which meant I owed him only $250. Did a great job. Will definitely have Carlos back again.

That is a ****load of mulch!

Yup. Took us a while, and my back is sore. Two wheelbarrows works well. Carlos did the edging and
spreading while I cycled the wheelbarrows. He definitely outworked my ass, especially with all the
edging.

I got the joke but alas the laziest people here are born in the USA
Americans and why not. You can make as much money on welfare as you
can make working unless you have a pretty good job and "pretty good
jobs" are going away.

Same is true here. When passing the day worker gathering places, I see only Hispanics.

Trust me, Donnee, I've not come close your buddy's level of dishonesty. But I gotta admit I was off

Thats enough to do a bed 2 foot wide 3 inches deep and 648 feet
long. Wow

I'll have to take some pictures. We have a lot of area under mulch.

12 cubic yards? You are full of ****. A full sized pickup truck bed
might hold two cubic yards of mulch if you can tie a tarp over it. That
would be six full pickup loads. If you buy the mulch in the typical two

Well, let's see...45 bags at 3 cu ft/ bag is 135 cu ft divided by 27cu ft/cu yd is 5 cu yds. Add to
that 6 cu yds dumped by truck on the driveway is ... 11 cubic yards. You're right, I was way off.
Hell, you could even accuse me of lying! Go for it.

I don't buy mulch by the pickup load. I have it delivered by these guys:

http://mulchandstone.com/mulches/dou...ood-mulch.html

I use the pickup when Meadows Farms has their 5 bags for $15 sale. The pickup will hold 30 bags, if
I use the back seat.

You should buy your mulch in bulk. It's much cheaper!

Now, don't you feel like an ass?

I've bought it in bulk when decent cedar mulch is available locally, but
usually the bulk mulch the locals sell is too chopped up and fine for my
taste. There's no way your bitty lawn/planting beds need 11 cubic yards...

When we did mulch in the (community assn) park we brought in an 18
wheeler with the "pooper" that just pushes the mulch out the back of a
40 foot trailer. It was around 100 yards. It disappeared faster than
you would think. We did 2 play areas and mulched around the trees.

If Harry wasn't so full of ****, he would knowbetter that John
isn't full of ****. But Harry's "100 bags" seems a lot to top
dress the little bit of landscaping he has?

He probably mulches clear down to the creek where the owls reside.

We see those also. But our city allows the day labor to congregate there.
And no riots have ensued.

It is just something we do not see here. I am not sure where people
get their day labor but it is not from people hanging out at the BORG.
We just know guys we can call but I think for most folks, they grab
the hefe from their landscape crew and he hooks them up. I know that
is how my neighbors do it.
Once you get a phone number or two and a good reputation with those
guys, if they can't help you, they have a cousin or neighbor who can.
That goes from simple grunt labor to masons, roofers and drywall guys.
The plasterer we got to stucco the inside walls of the new room made
it look like skim coated drywall.

Difference is we are a city of 74000 with similar population densities
around us. So lots of day labor required.

Actually Ft Myers is 74k too. We do have a lot of other cities around
that are almost as big tho. This is a patchwork of little kingdoms
with rural areas outside city limits.
Construction is a big enough industry here that we run at a very high
labor participation rate among latinos. Add to that 150 gated
communities with country clubs, kitchens and golf courses. Then you
have the fact that about 2/3ds of the people have a landscape company
doing their yard. Most folks have an "in" with the latino community if
they just ask around a little. Just use a little respect.
Just about anyone who actually wants to work, has a day job and all
the work they want off hours.
Nobody in their right mind will hire a renta drunk from a day labor
company when they can get a latino. The people we see with the "will
work for food" signs will give you the finger and run away if you
actually offer them a job.
