I've been doing some research on smaller trucks to replace the F-250 I

No, I wouldn't have bought a four-cylinder gasoline engine truck. I am,
however, very impressed with the four-cylinder engine in my wife's
Toyota Camry and probably wouldn't consider a car with a V-6 or V-8. The
Camry is peppy, and cruises at interstate speed limits with the engine
loafing.

If I were towing 5K to 6K lbs for any distance, I'd want a full sized
pickup with a V-8. Your F-250 would be ideal and I'd bet that your
wife would get used to it with a little practice. My wife drives our
Tundra on occasion. She doesn't particularly like it but manages OK.
The main issue with driving a truck is getting used to relying on the
side view mirrors for everything. Even with a V-8 the Tundra's
acceleration is nothing to write home about when towing close to the
max.

If I were towing 5K to 6K lbs for any distance, I'd want a full sized

Don't plan on doing any long distance towing. Last summer we put the
little camper in a very nice campground that's only about 10 minutes
from where we live. We didn't haul it back and forth. Paid for the
whole summer to leave it there. It's really just a get-a-way to do
something different once in a while. I never even spent the night in it
last summer.

Mrs.E likes sitting "higher" in vehicles and dislikes low slung regular
sedans. She also still hauls "stuff" for her horses who she visits and
the idea of a smaller pickup appeals to her. Whatever she gets will be
her daily driver. She has had the Mountaineer for several years now and
it smells like a horse barn. :-)

She'd cream anyone near her in a parking lot in the F-250, plus it's not
easy for her to climb in and out of.
