Do you use the crunchy or the creamy? My rodents seem to prefer the creamy, Jif of course. You are supposed to smear the peanut butter on bacon that is firmly attached to the trap trigger. They can lick off peanut butter without tripping the trap but once they get a taste of that bacon, they want it. I gave up on the Victor rat traps and went with glue traps or my live trap. I either shoot them or drop the trap in a trash can full of water. You can't leave them in there too long or they will chew through that 1/2" hardware cloth. I have yet to see the peanut butter removed without the trap being sprung. I'm using one of these: http://tinyurl.com/hjl9sab I have a small one like that one that I made years ago. It works pretty well but since it is 1/2" hardware cloth, a rat can eat through it if they have enough time. The only time it happened, I had looked at the rat in the trap, decided he wasn't going anywhere and went back to sleep. Usually they are calmly waiting until they see you coming. I had one of the larger raccoon size Havahearts when I was trying to get the cats and a raccoon tore a hole in it trying to get pups out, BTW I guess I am feeling benevolent today. Mr Ed cornered a cat in the pipe rack behind my shed and I haven't shot him ... yet. Why would you shoot Mr. Ed? ![]() GMTA! |

I must have bought a case when they were cheap because I don't think I paid more than a quarter each. I still have a lifetime supply |
