340 miles on the Goldwing this weekend

Yes I bought one. A used 1983 Honda Aspencade with only 23xxx miles on it. Nice bike I bought well cheap too. Missus and I logged 180 miles Sunday afternoon. Man was it hot. But she loved the ride and was impressed at how smooth and quiet this macbine is. It's no speed demon even though Honda boasts of 81 hp from the 1100cc engine, but the beast also weighs about 750 lb dry too. Anyhow I had it up to 80 which warrented a tough in the ribs. So..,

Oh this bike has some quirks but it's 33 years old too. Nothing that can't be reasonably handled though. After work I'm planning on goofing off maybe another hundred miles tonight. I love it!

You go, guy! Nothing like a nice evening ride out there in the country. Here it seems to take 45
minutes to get to a decent riding area. Better post a picture or two.

You're probably making Harry feel badly. I havent' heard about any of his 'Ducati' escapades lately.

How's the seat on that thing? Comfortable?

LOL. I doubt if I ever turn it into a trike. That's a really expensive procedure. But they do make a trike kit which is glorified training wheels for about any motor cycle, and they actually look good. and costs a tremendous amount less than a typical trike conversion. But I cant see one in my future...

I'm not a fan of the seat, John. the manufacturers give you their idea of what comfort is, and their idea isn't the same as mine. Mine is totally different than having a "King/queen" seat that you can't move around on and are stuck in one position. The old original GL1000 was much more comfortable. But I'll be getting a stack of gel-pacs to compensate for it's short comings. and it'll be fine. I also cant see spending a huge sum of money for a custom built saddle that I may be just as disappointed in. so...

We're you up there for a poser event? We see a lot of motorcycles
riding in trailers and pick me ups. I guess the owners are afraid
to break in the saddles or wear the little nibs off the tires. To

I hear that's a normal procedure for bike been in Daytona, and even Sturgis.. You can always tell the trailer queens. They're the ones with the out of state plates with not one bug or even a sprinkle of dust on them...

Here's the pad I'm using: http://tinyurl.com/gqw9p4j

The extra big size may be better for the Gold Wing: http://tinyurl.com/zzkkjr9

I absolutely love mine. Don't know how I ever got along without it. I had to raise my windscreen a
bit to compensate for the additional height, but that wasn't a big problem.

D'oh. "In" the back is not the same as "on" the back. I had a lot of

I've heard that's the way some folks ride - throw the bike in the back of the truck.

I also cant see spending a huge sum of money for a custom built saddle that I may be just as disappointed in. so...

More likely, these are the pads you use:

Most likely that's the Ducati he transported - a sticker on the back of his baby pickup.

Isn't there some Klanboree to which you should be towing your motel room?

No need to tow a motel room if you'd offer bed and breakfast to
someone when visiting Klan headquarters. After all it is so
close to your hamlet in the country.

No, it's one to which you haul your 'Ducati' to pose with it for some pictures so you can pretend

stopped and gave me a ride the last 5 miles or so home. Mine was a Kawa

Actually, their ages range from 50 to 76. It's mostly my old gang of

take the bike on a day and overnight trip to see a couple of old friends
who retired to Provincetown, MA.

I don't have "escapades," Racist John, but I was up in Connecticut
recently with my motorcycle, which I transported in the back of my
pick-me-up-truck.

We're you up there for a poser event? We see a lot of motorcycles
riding in trailers and pick me ups. I guess the owners are afraid
to break in the saddles or wear the little nibs off the tires. To
each his own. ?

A poser event? You mean something like those events Herring tows his
portable motel room to so he can hang out with the other old white guys
and listen to ersatz hillbilly music? No, I don't go to those. This was
just one of a few trips I make each year to the New Haven area to hang
out with old friends. Got pretty good MPGs driving up and back, too.

Got a lot of friends up there with Ducatis, eh.

Krause, your bull**** pile won't fit in your barn. Did you ever consider that?

BINGO! Hang out and pose with a bunch of 70 year old juvenile
delinquents. Could you still throw your leg over that thang and
ride it? Didn't think so.

What thang? He may have taken the Duc up there just to see if the truck would carry it...if he has a
Duc in the first place. Notice there's been no picture of it. Perhaps it doesn't reflect enough
light (maybe a 'ghost' Ducati) to set off the sensors in the Nikon he now owns.

No, but a couple of my old buds have motorcycles. As for bull****,
fortunately, I can't smell you from here.

I bought a 1984 GL1200 with about 65k on the clock last fall and ride it every chance I get.

http://www.monkeybutler.com/Share/GL1200.jpg

I commute 50 miles each way to work and take it every day I can. I'm okay with the saddle but it has Markland aftermarket floorboards with are not the best when a lot of shifting or braking is involved. I'm going to put some pegs on it and see how I like it.

Considering this thing was new when I last rode I still consider it drool worthy.

It certainly is drool worthy. Problem is my seat sits to low for me and il riding right on my proverbial "butt bone"

I'm gong to stack cushions on it or find something else that sits higher.

Nice! I haven't heard the "word" Aspencade for years! When are you
going to turn that thing into a trike?

LOL. I doubt if I ever turn it into a trike. That's a really expensive procedure. But they do make a trike kit which is glorified training wheels for about any motor cycle, and they actually look good. and costs a tremendous amount less than a typical trike conversion. But I cant see one in my future...

http://www.2040-motos.com/_content/c...8/4358/007.jpg

I've never seen that type of conversion! It looks like they made an
attempt to hide the rear wheel. Imagine that on Harry's imaginary Ducati.
