Most of Suburban Maryland is more than parts of PG and Monty County.
Further there are many areas of PG that are rural or upscale and are very

Why not just include Baltimore if you are being that inclusive? It
just shows what lengths commuters will go to so they don't have to
live near DC.

I can remember when "DC suburbs" were pretty much defined by the
beltway. We moved "out in the country" when we went to Oxon Hill and
my sister was so far away in Clinton that the only way you could get
there was on a Greyhound.
It was a while after I moved here that I started hearing that
Chesapeake Beach was a "commute".

From "downtown" (what I said)
Google maps says

1 h 9 min 39.0 miles
via MD-4 S and MD-4 S
49 min without traffic

1 h 41 min 55.7 miles
via I-495 E and MD-4 S
1 h 1 min without traffic

When is there "without traffic" if you are commuting?
Maybe if you work 2000- 0445.

When I was working at 1801 K st NW, it took me 45 minutes to an hour,
just to get to Clinton, just south of Andrews and that is far closer
than Huntingtown. (working 0830-1745) It usually took 20 minutes or
more, just to get to the Anacostia River.
It is one of the main reasons why I passed on the instructor job.
I did it for 3 months and I was done.

The "badness" might actually just be that people hate living near the
city for any number of reasons. The urban sprawl has made the close in
suburbs very urban in more ways than just the complexion of the people
who live there. I am even starting to feel it here but only when I get
up to US41. As long as I go west, I am still in a 40 square mile
upland and aquatic preserve where I can usually find places to boat
without seeing another soul. It is still less than 15 minutes from an
international airport, I-75 and 3 regional malls.

who live there.

Thankfully, we are an hour away from international airports, 30 minutes
from an interstate, and 50 minutes from an international mall. Close
enough.

There are plenty of commuter buses going to DC daily from at least as
far away as the edges of St. Mary's County. I take one at least once a
week from Calvert County, and my wife takes one every day. Usually takes
62 minutes in the AM and 70 minutes in the evening, for about $4.00 a ride.

Insanity. Is DC, PG and Montgomery really that bad these days?

Has nothing to do with bad.

They must be bad or you would live there. It is why I left Oxon Hill
and moved 20 minutes farther down the road.

That's just you projecting your fears onto me.

The "badness" might actually just be that people hate living near the
city for any number of reasons. The urban sprawl has made the close in
suburbs very urban in more ways than just the complexion of the people
who live there. I am even starting to feel it here but only when I get

Harry, you continue to be confused by 'hate' and 'disgust'. They are very different
emotions. You are not worthy of 'hate'. Like a pile of dog **** on the sidewalk, you
are worthy only of 'disgust'.

'Hating almost everyone in it'? From whence comes that tidbit? Your position on the
totem pole was described above, and I don't 'hate' you! Everyone else in this
country, and Canada, hell...the whole continent, is much higher than you on the totem
pole. :)

That should have read "regional mall," the big one up in Annapolis...

About 18 miles to the boatyard in Deale, where the boat winters on the
hard, 25 minutes, usually, give or take. I usually take the "scenic
route," along Fairhaven Road. There's a really interesting waterfront
house/compound I like, and one of these days, there will be a For Sale
sign on it, so I can go take a peek. It's a multi-million dollar
property, for sure.

Maybe not. In that price range they'll likely pre-qualify to weed out the trash.

About 18 miles to the boatyard in Deale,

My dock is 60 feet from my back door. The end of the "no wake" is
about a half mile and the Gulf is about 15 minutes away from there
with plenty of scenic boating in between. There is a pretty much
deserted beach right there too. Even right now, in the middle of
spring break, you can have several hundred feet to yourself and we
consider that crowded.

We don't mind the presence of other boaters or other people on the beach.
