Nope, the gates are closed. Still about six inches in many places, especially those
with shade. Plus, the ground is so wet we'd have to wear snowshoes to keep from
sinking.

Cute idea though. Thanks.

I went by the course a little while ago. Some of the greens still have several inches
of snow on them, and none of the fairways were even half clear. I was hoping for
Friday as the temps are supposed to be high this week. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Where did you get the small slide, Nanook?

Found it on the side of the road ;-)
That is the "slide of death". I actually got a cancellation notice
from my insurance company because I had a pool slide. I sent them a
picture with a yard stick setting next to it.
They then changed up and said they really meant I didn't have a fence
around my pool. and I asked them if the woman who spotted the S.O.D
noticed the screen cage?
They did and they had tacked on an additional $150 to my insurance
bill for it.
I never heard any more about it. The kids quickly outgrew the slide
and it became a ball return for the basketball hoop we had there.
Now it is just a place holder for the waterfall that was originally
planned for that spot.
That piece of PVC pipe sitting there was the prototype to test the
plumbing to be sure I had enough head pressure from the pool pump.

Speaking of pools, I finally made it over to the fairly new Hall
(Calvert County) indoor aquatics center, which has a bunch of swim
lanes, a huge jacuzzi and a therapy pool, which I also tried and has
water at a balmy 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and an exercise equipment room,
too. Nice play to spend an afternoon in the middle of the winter here.

What temperature are they running the pool with the lanes?
It would be 80-81 and we like hot water here. It is just not good for
exercising.

We have a couple nice spots here...Some owned by the University and a newer Canada Games Center, built half a dozen years ago when Halifax hosted the national games. We also got a neat outdoor skating oval that proves to be popular. It's free...even skates and helmet can be borrowed for 'no charge.

Jacuzzis are purely therapeutic and should be hot, to the point of
uncomfortable (103 or so). You are just supposed to be in them for a
short time. It is great for sore muscles.
Recreational hot tubs will run cooler 100-102 and still best when it
is cold outside. We really only use ours on very cool nights. 50-60f

Fortunately it is usually sunny enough and warm enough during the day
to get the water fairly warm for free.
I am getting ready to redo my collectors and I may go with glazing so
I can really get some heat in there. Right now I am pretty much
limited to 10-15 degrees above ambient air depending on the wind.

I know what you mean. I grew up in public pools but I am not really a
fan these days and I wouldn't get in a public hot tub.
Not enough water for the typical bathing load.

If it freezes where you are get vertical collectors. I have Fafco 30. Year
old collectors that are still fine. Bought some horizontal tube collectors
a few years ago. Bypassed and need to get off roof to dumps. The
horizontal do not drain and freeze splits them.

I wouldn't waste the time and effort required to maintain a personal
outdoor pool, especially one up here or further north, considering the
shortness of the season compared to yours.

Which is why I might join the county pool. $250 a year, no
maintenance. :)

I bet you can't go out there at 2 am for a skinny dip. (or 2 PM for
that matter)
The reason I like my own pool is convenience and also that "not
swimming in stranger's pee" thing.

Maintenance is not really that big a deal. It is only money.

But don't you see Greg? Sharing a "community" pool and having no
maintenance responsibilities is a very progressive, liberal thing.

Besides missing the pee, you miss all the kids screaming and jumping in.

Getting in a car and driving to the pool is about the same to me as
hooking up a trailer every time I want to go boating. I just wouldn't
do it.

You don't waste a lot of time or effort on anything except being an
asshole. And you are quite good at what you do. ;-)

Have any toys worth mentioning?

Cute idea though. Thanks.

===

That's fine if you like swimming in other people's pee.

I prefer swimming where fish poop. In my private pond. No maintenance, and no fees. Great place for cookouts and/or solitude.

We have a couple nice spots here...Some owned by the University and a newer Canada Games Center, built half a dozen years ago when Halifax hosted the national games. We also got a neat outdoor skating oval that proves to be popular. It's free...even skates and helmet can be borrowed for 'no charge.

You gotta love socialism! Of course, nothing's free, so I wonder who's paying for it?

BTW, did you ever figure out why you'd 'love' to see someone's possessions destroyed?

I understand the season concern but the time is not that great if the
pool is caged and you are not dealing with leaves and other airborne
junk
It is just money. I figure it costs about $300 a year to run the pump
and another $400-500 for chemicals. I spend 10 minutes a week dealing
with that and I check it in the middle of the week to be sure things
are going OK. Once you get the routine down, things are very
predictable.

It certainly makes a dip in the pool hassle free, no wet bathing suits
to deal with. In the summer I may be in the pool 4 or 5 times a day.

Nothing wrong with having a pool if you use it. Up here
an in-ground pool is, at best, neutral in terms of adding any value to
your property though. In some cases it's a negative. It also puts a
limitation on the market for your property when it comes selling time.
Not everyone is interested in having a pool.
