What registry? The list of people with a handgun license? Are you referring to a carry permit or the HQL? Why not both of them. It might be easy to argue those people are as much of an interest to the public as a guy with a 9 ounce drone. I doubt you would mind though since any government intrusion into your rights and privacy seem fine with you. All the carry permit states is that you can carry, and the HQL states you can buy a handgun. Neither states whether you own a handgun. There is no firearms regustry. So it would be OK if Maryland published the names and address of those with a It would be ok with me. -- Sent from my iPhone 6+ |

There is no record of the purchase? (assuming the purchase is from an FFL or licensed gun shop). |

Isn't that a "registry" of sorts? I think in some states the FFL is required to maintain purchase records for some number of years. Those records, identifying the purchaser, the gun model and serial number would be available to LEOs if required. I believe that my state electronically records purchase records into a state data base. This applies to both FFL and private sales. |

I believe that my state electronically records purchase records into a state data base. This applies to both FFL and private sales. Have a few questions about storing paperwork... 1) How long do FFL's need to keep the DROS & 4473 paperwork? The Federal paperwork has to be kept for 20 years for completed transfers, 5 years for non-completed transfers. The DROS forms are to be retained for 3 years. 2) Does the paperwork need to be stored onsite the entire time? Yes, it has to be stored at the licensed location. Although the FFL can turn over records to the BATF, so in that case it would not be stored at the licensed location. 3) Do all pages of the 4473 need to be kept (including pages 3-6)? Yes, it is part of the 4473. -- Ban idiots, not guns! |
