Defined by the Mason Dixon Line. Until fairly recently, where Harry lives was "the south" too but it became a suburb of DC when PG county turned into a combat zone and the people who could afford it, moved east. You really don't know what you are talking about. PG County is *not* a combat zone? Where the hell have you been? -- Ban idiots, not guns! There are some parts of PG County that have serious problems, but most of the county ain't that way. Hell, you're such a pee down your pants leg old whitey racist, you won't even go to DC. You must have been one hell of a brave soldier. If I didn't have a reason to go to DC, I wouldn't either... It's a beautiful city with many first-rate museums, restaurants, and parks. I can see why someone from ****ville, Illinois, wouldn't like it. Maybe someone from there wouldn't. But I wouldn't know, I'm not from there. But Harry, how you can be so far behind and think you're in front is beyond me. I've been to DC several times. What I said was: "If I didn't have a reason to go to DC, I wouldn't either... " Neither would you, well, maybe for some bazaar reason, you probably would. Visiting DC is fine. Just don't drink the water. The bride and I rode through DC on Rte 1 one night around 9 PM. It kind of creeped us out. Might be because I am not comfortable in big cities. The last two years I was in the Navy I was stationed in Annapolis. We went to DC regularly, often to entertain house guests and/or relatives who had never been there. This was in 1975-1977. Never felt unsafe although there were sections of the city surrounding the Capital area that were "rough". Haven't been back since other than some business trips to the Pentagon and one weekend for Rolling Thunder. had never been there. Whenever we have guests who've not seen the sights in DC, we always start with a visit at night. The Capitol, monuments, White House, etc, are nicely very nicely lit up. The Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial and Vietnam Memorial are especially beautiful at night. And, parking is readily available to visit those. No, I wouldn't want to take a walk through the Logan Circle, Columbia Heights, or Trinidad neighborhoods. A quick look at DC homicides might show why. Of course, I don't have the courage Harry thinks he has. -- Ban idiots, not guns! |
