Nobody is poking religion down your throat Harry.

Bull****.

Harry, all that paranoia is going to eat you alive. The easiest antidote against having religion 'crammed down your throat" is to close your mouth.. don't leave it gaping open. Religion isn't going away no matter how much you or the ACLU want to stammer about it.

Right, Tim. Let's all say nothing when the religious restrict the rights
of others, cram their beliefs into textbooks meant for public school,
teach hatred, et cetera. But...keep your mouth shut.

I find freedom in religion and practicing my faith. The constitution doesn't have a problem with that, so I don't understand why you would. That is unless you don't like the constitution.

For about the hundredth time, who here is poking religion down your throat?

And when you can't answer that one, who here is making all the posts about religion?

Why does discussion about religion so impact you, Johnny the Racist?
It's not as if you have any serious religious beliefs, eh?

I'm betting krause got kicked out of Vacation Bible School this summer... again.

We all saw how religion granted poise and grace to Charleston. How someone could not want that to spread over the entire country is beyond me. The rancor and hatred that krause embodies is exactly what's wrong in this country.

Why does discussion about religion so impact you, Johnny the Racist?
It's not as if you have any serious religious beliefs, eh?

You have no serious religious beliefs, Harry.

Sure I do. I believe most of what is called "religion" arose from
earlier man's superstitions and inability to understand nature, his
surroundings, and what seemed then to be inexplicable. Most of what
comprises the fundamentals of your religion arose because the promise of
an "wonderful afterlife in heaven with Jesus" was appealing to the
overwhelming majority of ordinary people whose existence in early times
consisted of endless toil, a short life and a lot of suffering.

Those are pretty serious religious beliefs. I don't know whether there
*is* a god, and neither does anyone else. In the absence of proof, I am
a skeptic. What I do know, though, is that religion - all religion - is
a construct of man.

So you ARE religious. Then you should have o problem with religion even with those whom you say 'cram' religion down others throats. like you do here...

My *problem* with religion occurs when the religious try to or do cram
their religious beliefs down the throats of those who believe
differently or not at all.

And the cramming doesn't have to be aimed at me, personally. It can be
aimed a society generally. Obviously, I have no need of abortion
services, but I want abortions to be readily available to women who want
one. The "religious" fight that and have restricted access. Also, I
don't want creationism taught in the public schools, but the religious
do, and keep trying. Those are just two examples. There are many, many
more. When I was a kid, our state was constricted by the so called "blue
laws" that required most stores to remain closed on Sundays. That was
religion shoving itself down peoples' throats. My dad and other boat
dealers worked together for years to have that law scrapped, and,
finally, they succeeded. Why should a religious belief like that
restrict the rights of those who believe differently? We're not talking
about "Thou shall not kill," eh?

I often think of John Donne's poem...

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own we
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

Well, when the "religious" restrict anyone's rights, they are
restricting my rights, because I "am involved" and the bell tolls for
all of us.

Once again, Johnny the Racist, your sense of entitlement defines you. No
one has to respond to your "questions." You're not in charge. How's that
Kimber doing? Jammed up at the range lately, as Kimbers have a
reputation of doing?

My Kimber pumps .45's downrange with aplomb. Never a problem. Beautiful gun.

Don't be jealous.

Of what? Your pistola? I have no desire or need for a pistol in .45ACP,
but if I did, I wouldn't buy a Kimber or, for that matter, any other
1911 style pistola. I do like the CZ 97B:

Tim had an excellent suggestion for you. If your throat feels crammed
then shut your pie hole.

If you must grouse about something, talk about narcissists, bigots,
braggarts, dead beats, defaulters, tax cheats, welshers, liars, thieves,
bullies, cowards, etc. These things of which you are so familiar and yet
never talk about.
