Propaganda for Russian citizens.

The USS Ross released a video of the "encounter". The Russian Su-24
(there was only one ... not plural as Sputnik News reported) simply
made one pass from abeam and then flew off. It's wings were "clean"
meaning it was unarmed. It didn't "chase" the American ship anywhere.

This type of encounter has been going on for decades. The ships I was
on were routinely approached and monitored by Soviet aircraft and
ships.

The other incident involving the USS Donald Cook whereby the Russians
claim that they completely disabled the ship using electronic warfare
systems and that 27 crew members subsequently "resigned" from the Navy
due to fear has been proven to have been completely fabricated, again
for the benefit of the Russian citizens.

As a politician Putin seems to have the same level of honesty as Hillary
Clinton.

Putin is a clever guy, but how did he cohearse the USS Ross to take and
publish the video?

I wonder why the Ross was steaming toward territorial waters. To provoke
a reaction? There doesn't seem to be any other rational motive. But why?

The usual reason is to test radar systems and responses. Best case is
if you can get the Russians to turn on some of their latest hi tech
electronics and gather the data.
