Sounds to me like you have never had to restrain a belligerent, 20 year
old drunk while he's calling you a "****ing racist" over and over.

Cops are trained to gain control of a situation as rapidly as possible
to avoid injury to themselves, the person being arrested or to
bystanders. Sorry the kid got a bump on the head in the process.




My small wife was trained to restrain out of control mental health
patients, and to do it with the help of one or two other mental healh
professionals. She received this training at a large state mental
hospital in Florida, where many dangerous "forensic" patients are housed
and treated, people I suspect are far more dangerous than the average
unarmed kid you find outside a college drinking joint.




She's only had to do this twice in her career, thankfully. The cops use
excess force because their training is not sufficient, the violent ones
are not weeded out, and they know they can get away with it.

I have no idea, but she and other workers did it twice, without injury
to anyone. I do recall that one of the patients was a really large woman
who had murdered someone, was judged insane, and managed to first slam a
heavy steel door on a worker, cutting off one of the worker's fingers.
Then my wife and two others restrained the woman, and got her under
control. Without hitting her.

I did not see the cops striking the kid. Did you? If you are saying the orderlies did
not take the woman to the ground, after she cut off a finger with a door, then I
believe you are telling another lie.

It's always interesting to me that here on rec.boats those without any
particular experience in matters such as I've described think they are
experts. I'm confident that any two or three properly trained mental
health workers could restrain just about any unarmed person without
causing serious injury. You work in a forensic hospital, you get
training. Lots of training.

Unarmed? Did the cops know the kid was unarmed? Should cops treat all unruly
individuals as 'unarmed'?

Ah yes, all law enforcement officers should have a bachelors degree in social work as
part of their training to become qualified.
