They do fine. Horses have a weird metabolism that allows them to
tolerate extreme cold with no ill affects. All they need is hay to
process and the digestive process keeps them warm.

My biggest problem right now is with Waste Management Corp. We are
required by the town to have a dumpster for the temporary storage of
horse manure and used stall bedding. Every two weeks Waste Management
comes out and empties the dumpster. Our driveway(s) are such that
normally the driver can drive up the main driveway, turn the truck
around, picking up and dumping the dumpster in the process. With all
the snow and piled up snow banks he can't make the swing to completely
turn the truck around. He drives up to where the dumpster is and then
backs down the driveway to the road. Then my wife gets a call saying
they can't access the dumpster. They've done this twice now.

So, I climbed aboard the tractor and spent a couple of hours moving
snow banks and widening the driveways. All he has to do is *back* up
the driveway and there is plenty of room for him to back into an area
I cleared, pull straight to the dumpster, empty it, back up about 10
feet, turn and drive straight out to the road. If he can back out, he
can back in.

He came again yesterday, late in the afternoon and did the same thing
he usually does. Drives straight in, realizes he can't turn completely
around, backs out and they call us again.

Assuming we don't get too badly clobbered with this storm tonight and
tomorrow I am going to call the local Waste Management office again on
Monday and tell them I'll meet the driver at the end of the driveway
and *I'll* back the stupid truck up and empty the dumpster for him.

Guess you can tell I am ****ed. I've driven and maneuvered rigs bigger
than his truck in the past and I know it's not a problem. It's just
"inconvenient" for him. ****es me off when you are paying almost $400 a
month for the service and have been for over 14 years.
