stave/electrical doohickey business out in the shop.

Lol! No I never did have a 'trap door' Springfield, but ironically I do have 5 rounds of 45-70 govt. for one.

It is hard to tell exactly what that gun is but if it is an old army
falling block (popular in the west) it was likely to be 45-70 and you
can still find that ammo. Just be sure it is downloaded to black
powder pressures to be safe. Some of those would handle modern loads
but I suspect most won't.

Personally I would consider anything like that to be a wall hanger.

I once saw a video of coasties getting ready to board one of their
small boats for a mission. It looked like each one of them would stop
briefly at a device that looked like it might have been a pole mounted
bullet trap, point their sidearm inside, and cycle the action. I
guess its possible they were putting a round in the chamber and then
decocking and/or activating the safety. Any idea?

We had those in Vietnam at the gates of some of the bases. It's a
'clearing' station. A place to point the weapon after dropping the
magazine and ejecting a chambered round - then pulling the trigger
while pointing the gun into the clearing station. Every so often
someone would forget to eject the round in the chamber. The ensuing
'bang' would get everyone's attention - if nothing else just to see
how red the guy's face would get.

They had a round go in those barrels at the prisons occasionally too.
These are cops so it is a little scary. Where do they usually load
their guns?

Don't know where the cops loaded theirs, but if we were riding around
the countryside we had everything loaded.

Greg. .35 isn't really that hard to find. Several hunters here use that caliber when hunting in Missouri
