Grouper are good eating fish but the reds can be a bit wormy if that bothers you. Most people never notice particularly when they are cooked (little black specks people do not notice) The blacks are better. The "Goliath" (AKA Jewfish) is still a grouper but a huge one. Personally I think the small ones taste the better. Seems like that's true for most fish. I'd much rather catch a 20" striper, for eating, than a 35"er. That's especially true for catfish. Better catch up with the regs Sheriff. Minimum length in Virginia is 28 inches except for "Trophy Season" when it is 32 inches. |
