While speaking yesterday with Janet Mefferd about his book, “The
Secessionist States of America: The Blueprint for Creating a Traditional Values Country…Now,” conservative columnist and former Reagan administration aide Douglas MacKinnon called for a movement of states, starting with South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, to establish a new country that will adhere to the Religious Right’s political agenda. ... - - - Hot damn...that means we Northerners can get on with the job of building a progressive union of forward-looking states and the Southern secessionists can get on with their vision of building a third-world cluster****. -- Of life’s simple pleasures, few are more satisfying than being attacked by the right-wing trash in rec.boats. ![]() |

"Forward looking" means different things to different people. The same "forward lookers" regarding some issues may also be the ones who long for the "good old days" on others. That's what's good about a democracy though. Individuals or groups can propose and advocate for anything they want (within reason). |

The rest of the South can change their national symbol to the pale-skinned blond Jew on a cross, as far as I am concerned. -- Of life’s simple pleasures, few are more satisfying than being attacked by the right-wing trash in rec.boats. ![]() |

We would happily let you have Ft Liquordale and Myammo right now if you want them. Never been to Hilton Head but the other Krause favorites have no appeal to me. As a matter of fact on our visit to La. during Mardi Gras last year, we deliberately avoided N.O. We did go to the site of Krause's shooting on Grand Isle though. Hilton Head is a high rent beach destination on the southern coast of SC. Very restrictive building, house, and signage requirements to keep everything low-key and classy. Then one end of the island is a gated community, Harbour Town, with a high-end marina and world-class golf course where the Heritage is played the week after the Masters. We have access to a house there and go 2-3 times a year. It tends to get a bit crowded with the out-of-state crowd trying to "put on airs". There are better, more laid back beaches on our coast. Edisto comes to mind. |
