If I were going to carry again, I'd be interested in a Ruger LCR
revolver in .357 MAG with a five round cylinder.

.357 is a very capable self defense piece if you can hit anything with
it. (stressed, bad light etc)

Was at the range yesterday shooting the new S&W AR. Also took out the 1911
45. New AR great shooter. Almost dead on out of the box. Forgot how
abusive to the hand the 45 can be. One pinched finger and nicked thumb.
But was fun.



Which M&P did you get? I have no idea of what is "allowed" in California
these days in "black rifles." I like just about everything about my M&P
15-22 *except* the four-sided rail system...not that comfortable to hold
in the beer mug grip. I haven't done anything serious to customize my
"real" Colt AR-15. I have an optic for it but I still am enjoying
shooting out to 100 yards with the stock sights.

m&p 15 Sport. 5.56/223. Has a round fore grip. Like the old M16. Rail
above the receiver. Will probably get rings for a scope. Take the Scope
off my 7400. Out of the box, flip up iron sights, nice sights by the way.
Shot about 2 inch right at 50 yards. One click and was very close. At a
100 yard, was still good. A few in the x ring, and most in the black. My
failure not the rifle.

That's a fine rifle. My Colt looks very much like it, except mine has a
dust cover...which I supposed will be helpful if I'm caught in the
desert somewhere and facing a horde of zombies. Do you have magazine
limitations in California?

A friend has one, and I've fired it a few times. Shot both 45 Colt and .410 shells with it. Lots of recoil, decent accuracy. It didn't excite me enough to consider one.



My buddy's wife bought a S&W Governor for her first handgun. Like the
Judge, it shoots 45 cal and .410 shells. I tried it out at the range
shortly after she got it. Nice gun.

This guy does a review on the Judge vs the Governor. He obviously isn't
a big fan of the former.

Dust cover is pretty worthless I think. Once you fire, the cover is open
anyway. The Sport does not have a dust cover or forward assist. Maybe
combat and FA would be good. Original M16 used the bolt lever as an
assist. We need a bullet button. Requires a "tool" to remove magazine.
Can only buy 10 rd or less mags. I do not think it is illegal to possess a
mag with larger capacity, just can not buy in state.

We have some bizarre laws in Maryland relating to AR rifles.
You can buy a complete AR, lower and upper, so long as it has a "heavy"
barrel. That's what I have, an HBR Colt with a heavy barrel. You can buy
10-round mags in state, but if you want larger cap mags, you have to buy
them out of state. Possession of larger cap mags is legal. We don't have
bullet buttons here yet.

You can buy a complete .308 AR type rifle without an HBAR. Only the
5.56/.223 ARs have to have the HBAR. You can buy a lower and then buy a
non-HBAR upper, since the state has no way to prove when you bought that
upper, as they are not serialized. And so on. You can buy a suppressor
if your local sheriff signs off on it, but if he won't, you can download
the forms off the internet and set up a trust and have the suppressor
"owned" by the trust.

I don't know how anyone keeps up with this stuff.

I think the actual street price probably reflects that. He was talking
about $600 and change for the taurus and they are $300-400 depending
on where you buy one. Not sure about the S&W

Personally I would pay about $200-250 used if someone was slapping me
in the face with it but the more I have thought about it, I am not
sure why. It would really just be a novelty for shooting at clay birds
at the electricians shoot. I think I may take my frontier scout next
time I go and see in a .22 shot load will even break a bird.

small, concealable one, not a trickster pistol that shoots .45 and .410.

quickening drop in .22LR ammo prices. There are some decent rounds from
name brand suppliers out there for a nickel a round or even less if you
shop carefully, and there have been good price drops in .223, too, and

morons who get their news from Faux aren't being duped as much by the
NRA and its manufacturer enablers.

There is no way I would pay $600 or even $300 for a novelty like that.

Sportsmans guide just sent me an alert that they have Russian 9mm
cans (900 rounds) for $233. That is a quarter a shot


There's plenty of Russian 9mm around for less than 20 cents a round, and
even CCI Blazer for less than 25 cents a round. I only shoot S&B in my
revolver and lever rifle, either Federal or Lehigh Defensive in my AR,
and either CCI or Federal in my .22LR rifle.

My friend's wife bought the Governor for concealed carry and keeps it
loaded with .410 birdshot. She carries it in her purse. Makes sense
for a woman, I think. She's unlikely to be in a shoot out at long
range. Birdshot probably won't kill but the chances of missing are reduced.

I bought the railed model. It's going for nearly $1000 more already on
the secondary market. I didn't plan to shoot it and bought it for my
collection. My concern is that there is a warranty so maybe I should
put a few rounds through it to make sure all is well. On the other
hand, it would no longer be an unfired gun - outside of the factory. If
the prices don't move up significantly I will keep it forever so that's
less of an issue.

I guess I'll watch the prices during the warranty period and decide what
to do.

Harry would kill to be able to afford a gun like that.


I didn't pay MSRP - about $700 less. I knew I could get a bit more when
I bought it so I chalked it up as an investment. I had to justify it
