I know. The point, though, is that I don't think it is a good idea for
the cops to be so militarized. They're not that well-trained, they tend
to shoot first and never worry about "the questions," and why the hell
do they need full auto weaponry and the other military crap they are
getting.

I can see equipping a senior police officer's vehicle with a full auto
weapon, maybe.

I still would ask "why".
I doubt there have been a half dozen situations in the last several
decades that justified full auto fire. In fact I really can't think of
ONE.
This all came out of the bank robbery in LA where the bad guys had
automatic weapons but the most effective defense would have been
snipers with some modicum of skill and .308s with AP ammo. Spraying
the neighborhood with largely ineffective fire doesn't solve anything.

There was a study done in the 50s by LAPD where they compared cops
with shotguns and Thompsons (the go to submachine gun at the time)
The cops got more hits with shotgun pellets than they did with 45
rounds from the Thompson (throwing them 12 at a time).
That is why the 12ga was the standard backup gun in cop cars until the
80s.
This has more to do with the TV show "Miami Vice"
than it does any real law enforcement need.

I tried a "real" full auto machine gun once at a range in Kansas, and I
know someone with the bumpfire stock for his S&W M&P 15-22 which I might
try, but I really don't see the attraction of full auto fire outside of
a hot *real* war zone. Even .22LR ammo at five cents a round is a waste
of money and ammo in full auto.

The ammo gods were with me this week. I "scored" three 300-round boxes
of CCI .22LR "AR Tactical" for $24 a box from Cabelas. They look just
like the overpriced mini-mags, but are a hair lighter in the powder charge.

Bought a Silencerco Sparrow. My local FFL/Gunsmith says the paperwork is
taking about three months these days.
