Likewise. I do work for the people and businesses and organizations I do
work for because I like the people and the work. But since I am working,
I don't consider myself...retired. Frankly, the thought of being
*retired* makes me queasy. I'd have to take up golf, RV'ing, model
airplanes, attending Tea Party rallies, stamp collecting (unperforated,
of course), and buying and selling pistols because I can't find the one
or two I'd like.

I bet you could call Md DNR and they would have plenty of volunteer
opportunities for you near your house. There is also the private "Eyes
on the Bay" water monitoring group who always can use help.

If you need the image of authority, you could join the USCG Aux. My ex
is still very active there and she could get you some contacts. You
might even get a fuel voucher if you want to use that new boat of
yours.

Most of the retired people I know manage to stay so busy, they wonder
how they ever had time to work.

Well, those are worthwhile activities if I ever decide to retire.

Being retired means you no longer have to worry about what others think

of you, of being "politically correct" or being concerned with

Being retired means you probably have enough life experience to know

what's right and what's wrong, what is opportunistic BS talk and what

is the real deal.

Being retired means you can judge people on individual merits, not as

members of a group that can influence or affect your livelihood and

means of making a living.

Being retired means you never have to kiss anyone's ass.

I like being retired.

Squared.

Speaking of armed morons...

Talking to the mirror?

I'm sorry, Bilious, but I don't see Tea Party types, born-again John
Birchers, politically active superchristian fundies, racists, women
haters, gay bashers, et cetera, as anything more than boils on the body
politic and commonweal.

We were referring to armed morons. You seem to fit the catagory.
