Question for those using Thunderbird as a news reader.

If you delete a post, is there a way of getting it back?

They way mine is set, if I accidentally click on "delete", the post
disappears. It's not put in a trash folder (like e-mail). I've
clicked
on "Undo delete" in the Edit bar but that doesn't return the post to
the viewer.

I know I can probably go hunt for it in a cache or something but was
wondering if there is a setting to put deleted newsgroup posts in the
trash bin where it can be recovered.

Just drag and drop it from the trash, back to the in box. Or, right
click on the message in the trash list, and click "move to"... and
click
the folder you want.

There is no "trash" folder for the newsgroup account. Only for the
email account.

I can't find a way to create one either.

My problem is accidentally clicking on "delete". When it's gone, it's
gone.

Go to VIEW, THREADS, and click on ALL. That might bring them back if you
haven't actually somehow deleted them from the server.

Doesn't seem to work. I tried right clicking on "r.boats" in the news
account and then on "Search messages" with both the subfolder and
server boxes checked. I entered the name of a thread in the subject
line. Nothing is returned. Looks like if you "delete" it really
means *delete*. I know you can click on "archive" and save the post.
My problem is I sometimes get a little over zealous in clicking on the
"delete".

If the post is really important, you can delete rec.boats from the news
server category under newsgroups, quit T'bird, start T'bird, reinstall
rec.boats and it should download about a zillion posts, all of them that
are downloadable from the news server. If you then sort by date you
should find the one you are looking for, with a bit of trouble.

It's rare a post is that important. :-) Like Hank said, I can always
go find it on my other laptop. The iMac is also set up with
Thunderbird but I rarely go on-line with it.

I was just curious if there was a means of deleting to a trash folder
like in email. Apparently there is not. Important posts that one would
like to save can be put in "archives". I just need to stop being so
trigger happy with the "delete" button.
