If the post is really important, you can delete rec.boats from the news
server category under newsgroups, quit T'bird, start T'bird, reinstall
rec.boats and it should download about a zillion posts, all of them that
are downloadable from the news server. If you then sort by date you
should find the one you are looking for, with a bit of trouble.

Can't you go back and reload the past 'x' number of posts, or go back 'y' days worth of posts? Agent
will do that, which makes it pretty easy to retrieve a post.

If the post is really important, you can delete rec.boats from the news

It's rare a post is that important. :-) Like Hank said, I can always
go find it on my other laptop. The iMac is also set up with
Thunderbird but I rarely go on-line with it.

I was just curious if there was a means of deleting to a trash folder
like in email. Apparently there is not. Important posts that one would
like to save can be put in "archives". I just need to stop being so
trigger happy with the "delete" button.

Can't you go back and reload the past 'x' number of posts, or go back 'y' days worth of posts? Agent

I *think* that in Thunderbird you would need to do what Harry discussed.
You'd have to "unsubscribe" to rec.boats, then re-subscribe and define
the number of posts you want to download again. I think there's an
option for dates as well, but I can't remember.

No big deal. I was just wondering. I used to use Windows Mail and
Windows Live mail for reading newsgroups and you could retrieve deleted
posts using them. I stopped using them and went to Thunderbird, mainly
because of you. :-)

Another comment regarding Usenet. I realize things change but it's
really regrettable that newsgroups became available via web based forums
like "Goggle Groups" and others. When that started the whole culture of
usenet began to change resulting in people like the clown in Canada (the
"other" Scott) having easy access to newsgroups. There were always
debates and disagreements but they had a different flavor than now.
I'd love to see web based access to newsgroups disappear. For those who
still want access, there are free newsgroup servers and free readers
(like Agent and Thunderbird) available. I happen to subscribe to
Giganews as a server for $4 a month and it's well worth it to get a few
chuckles here every other day.

Yes and I can find it on them. I was just wondering if there's a way
to setup Thunderbird so it acts more like an e-mail account where a
"deleted" email goes into a trash folder.

You can setup Tbird to have you confirm a delete.

I get Giganews via Earthlink, included in my internet. But I think I
have read where you can subscribe to Giganews for about $29 a year.
