They end up at flea markets and dollar stores.

The balls that the grounds keepers find at my wife's course end up in
a barrel at the pro shop, for free. It speeds up play if you get free
balls

We throw balls in the barrel also. The pro uses them, but he's usually got too many. Our course
doesn't have a driving range.

The driving range at my wife's place is the lake so they use floaters.
If it really rains a lot they have to go out to the street over the
fence and rake them out of the storm ditch ;-)

That is a good idea. We have a pond right close to the clubhouse. If the banks were groomed a bit,
it would be very easy to net floaters out of the pond. The drainage is one of those standpipes that
drain when the water reaches a certain height, but the openings could be easily covered with a
screen to keep the balls from being washed away.

What kind of balls do they use? Is there a web site that discusses this for your wife's course?

They just say "floater" on them.
This is the lake. That fountain gets the hell beat out of it.
