The way CNN is ripping into the Mayor

I think local or state government can "request" that businesses close or release early but they can't force it without declaring a state of emergency. Last time I can recall businesses being forced to close up here was in the blizzard of '78 when Michael Dukakis (then governor) declared a state of emergency and banned any civilian auto travel for almost a week. I came up from Florida as soon as the roads opened and tured right back around on my return trip.. The think I remember the most was on the way up the Nat Guard was using huge loaders to lift and deposit stranded cars on side of the highway into the snow banks to clear the roads. On the way back down a couple days later, all those cars were laying there, upsidedown, stripped, and burned.... |
