Foad can't seem to understand that there are as many left-wing religious folk as there are right-wing religious folk. To him, only the right-wing folk are 'bad'. The left-wingers, which of course include most of the Black and Hispanic religious folk, are super fine people! John H. -- Hope you're having a great day! |

Marx wrote that the real purpose of religion was to create a fantasy world for the impoverished. The realities of life for the poor make it extremely difficult for them to be comfortable, so religious belief tells them they will find comfort and happiness in "the next life." Religion sugarcoats or serves as an opiate for the poor. Au contraire, Mr. Harvard graduate. It IS derived from Marx: "Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people." John H. -- Hope you're having a great day! Spoof. Neither of them are right-wingers. They're Baptists. you're article was about 'Baptists" My article was about a right-winger religious nutjob who happens to be baptist. Notice the subject line: Why right-wing religion is doomed... I noticed it, and you made it 'right-wing' other wise it's about Baptists Substitute whatever Christian right sect you like that wants to control its followers *and society in general* . The why didn't you do that, Harry? The headline did that. The article that followed simply paid it off. Are you trying to say that it wouldn't be easy to find other Christian right sects and religiously oriented groups that use nonsense and "the bible" to try to control their followers and the general public? Hmm. How about that Catholic group in your state, America Needs Fatima, part of the right-wing American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property. It is linking the tornadoes that hit Illinois last weekend to the states recent approval of a marriage equality bill. God sent tornadoes to Illinois to punish the state for passing a marriage equality bill? What sect(s) comprise the Family Research Council? Now there is an organization of bat****-crazy, controlling religious nutcases. What about them, Harry. You continually post that they mean nothing to you, yet on the other hand, you constantly post of them for your criticism. They're a force for evil, and are among the religious groups that work to push their backwards beliefs onto society as a whole. How about Ken Copeland, who recently said on a Veterans Day broadcast, ... What about him? Does he really bother you? or do you just want somebody to kick? Yes, hate-filled, ignorant religious assholes like Copeland bother me because of what they spread. The resentment and subtle activism you display makes you as guilty as the "hate-filled, ignorant religious assholes" that you despise. The bottom line is you have the right to ignore them, same as anyone else who do not believe in their preachings. Conversely, those who choose to believe have an equal right to do so. Not much can be jammed down your throat if you keep your mouth shut. Oh, really? Try explaining that to a woman in Texas denied access to women's health resources because the assholes who run that state decided allowing that access would be in violation of their religious beliefs. Why are you concerned with who is elected in Texas and the beliefs of those who elected them? You live in Maryland, last I knew. He can't find anything to complain about in Maryland. He's extremely well fed, his sugar mama buys him toys, and there is an Apple store nearby. What more could a guy ask for? -- Americans deserve better. |

Texas sends legislators to Washington, D.C., and some of those legislators try to infect the rest of their country with their sicknesses. 2. The women of Texas are being oppressed by their ignorant lawmakers. Texas is still part of the United States, for the moment, anyway, and I think it behooves us to try to eliminate oppression in this country. I was concerned with the blatant segregation and oppression of blacks in the South during the middle part of the last century, and I am concerned about the oppression of gays in this country now. Just because it is Texas that is a septic tank of oppression doesn't mean it is ok for me to ignore it because I live in a different state. You have my permission to ignore everything that doesn't concern you. Now be a good boy and go round up all of those past due tax bills and go pay them. -- Americans deserve better. |

Following your logic and sense of modern day manifest destiny, we should be active in eliminating lawmakers all over the planet, including people like Putin who doesn't like gays. Following your logic and sense of modern day manifest destiny, we should be active in eliminating lawmakers all over the planet, including people like Putin who doesn't like gays. Many of us worked to try to eliminate racial oppression in this country. Progress has been made, but there is much left to do. Gay rights have been extended, but there is much left to do. Womens' rights have been extended, but there is much left to do. Perhaps you are satisfied with a country that makes no progress in terms of rights for the oppressed who live here, but I am not. Following your logic, we'd still have slavery in this country, eh? I think we should put our own house in order and set an example for other countries around the world. Sending troops around the world to resolve oppression in other countries doesn't work too well. Religious beliefs seem to be at the root of much of the oppression in this country. "Scripture" was misused to perpetuate slavery, and it is being used these days to oppress women, gays, and other groups. Laws are written with certain intent. Smart lawyers can easily twist the laws around to suit their needs. If we are oppressed its our govt. who's doing it. Especially the current office holders. -- Americans deserve better. |

This is supposed to be "one nation *under god* indivisible...with liberty and justice for all." "All" means everyone. In many cases, we get new "national" laws or other actions as a result of the oppression of groups of people within states. We understand the progressive mindset and its desire to get rid of the authority that the several States have because it is easier to control 600 in DC rather than 10,000 in the states.
