Default 22' Sirius info?

You'll have better luck if you look up Sirius 21 not 22

At the end of the prodution run, they changed the transom and then stated
calling it a sirius 22. I've been out on the 21 a few times and they're a
pretty good sailer for a family type boat.

Can anyone tell me anything good or bad about a 22" Sirius?
There's one for sale with trailer, for ~$4,000.00, which sounds good, but

I
don't want to buy something I'll feel like selling soon afterwards.
I've looked it up on the net, didn't see much, but just want personal
opinions.
Thanks to all.

I have a friend with one. Closest comparison would be a Catalina 22.
4K seems a little high as they haven't been made for several years;
unless there's a newish motor included, and the boat is in really great
shape. Suggest you look around at local C-22 prices and offer 25% lower

Are you mistaken about the model of this boat. I own a 22 foot Westerly
Cirrus. If it's the same type of boat, I can recommend it for it's construction
and sea handling. If there are any particulars you want to
know about the Cirrus, let me know.

I don't know anything bad about them, lot's good. Huge amount of interior space
for it's size. Really large V berth. Seakindly. A friend had one until the
middle of last summer, sailed it on Georgian Bay. And I mean SAILED it. He only
sold it because he was getting older nad the bending over insde was becoming an
issue. They were built in Owen Sound, ON.
Around here (SW Ontario), they have quite a high resale value compared to other
vessels of similar vintage. His went for $8500CDN, with a trailer, roller
furling jib and all the standard equipment (I think it was a 2 stroke outboard
even). Converting $4K US = about $5200CDN, so I;d say it was a fair price. As a
previous poster mentioned, search Sirius 21.

You may have already found it, but in case you didn't, Canadian Yachting had
this to say about it:

One gem is the Sirius 21/22 built by Vandestadt and McGruer Ltd. of Owen Sound,
Ont. a company which had a strong 25-year history before finally closing its
doors in 1987. Designed at Vandestadt, the Sirius 21/22 was an innovative boat
and indeed is said to be the first North American production-built, ballasted
cruising boat with positive flotation. In a more expensive procedure,
closed-cell foam was injected into some compartments, then into the gap between
the inner and outer hull the full length and up to the deck level. The foam
stiffened the hull, provided sound and head insulation as well as buoyancy. Of
course, with foam-injection construction, there is some loss of space in the
interior as well as in stowage lockers.

Good Old Boat Magazine just did an article on them in their latest issue.
You might want
to pick up a copy at your local mag store.

I've sailing on a Sirus 21 (4 adults) for a long weekend in the 1000
islands. The boat is
pretty good. There's a fair amount of space and the boat seems to handle
pretty well.
4K US doesn't sound out of the ball park for this type of boat.
