Jackson, a Chesapeake pastor, said people who don't follow Jesus Christ "are engaged in some sort of false religion." Don't you think they are all false religions? Indeed, but I'm not running for public office. If I were, I would keep my personal religious beliefs to myself, because I don't believe religion should be part of political decision-making. It's one thing for an office seeker to say, "I'm Buddhist (Christian, Jewish, Muslim, et cetera)." It's quite another to say "I'm a Christian, and if you aren't, well, your religion is bull****, but mine isn't." Harry, 3every time you say something like 'rightie/christian/fundie" or 'christian righties' you're bringing religion into politics. Besides, since you say you don't believe in 'religion' or 'religions' then what do you care anyhow? Once again, Tim, I am *not* a politician, nor do I have any interest in running for public office, nor do I care if a politician *is* religious, so long as he or she does not try to push those religious beliefs onto society. I do, however, find the new pope's remarks in the last week or so interesting, among them these on poverty: “the consequence of a worldwide choice, an economic system that leads to this tragedy, an economic system that has at its centre the idol of money.” |
