Thank goodness we have the right to defend ourselves, at least in some
states.

In what state do you not have the "right to defend" yourself?

In northeastern states that right is not as absolute as you would have
us believe.
I know a guy who did 7 years in Md for killing an intruder in his own
home (bare hands).

Bull****. Has to be more to it than that.

I have known the guy since Cub Scouts and I was at the trial.

The operative question at trial was "after you hit him the first time,
could you have escaped (from your own home)"
The answer was "maybe"
Then it was "why did you hit him again"

... guilty as charged.

It is one reason why using a gun is safer, legally.

You are in danger ... bang... you are not. As long as you don't shoot
again, it was self defense.

In an empty hand defense or using any blunt object, you have to
justify every single blow.

Cite?

Have you actually ever read the self defense statute in your state?

Even in Florida, your right to defend yourself stops the instant the
attacker no longer presents a threat.

Take a CCW course sometime. I have done it a number of times. It is
free if you don't need the certificate.

I'll ask again.... CITE?

A man in his early 30s entered Armen's House of Music one afternoon, looked around and left. He
returned just a few minutes later with a wooden club and began attacking the owner's wife, Sylvia
Armen, who was working in the store at the time. The owner, Alfred Armen, heard the commotion and
ran to his wife's aid. He tried to defend his wife and fought with the suspect before shooting him
fatally. Mr. and Mrs. Armen were later taken to a hospital with head injuries and are expected to
recover. According to police, there was no motive behind the attack. (WTAE.com, Bethel Park, PA,)

Thank goodness for guns.

In certain circumstances. Hammers are for nails but they're used to
bang on a whole lot of things that don't require banging.

In cases involving human beings confronting one another, they're
mainly used inappropriately for the wrong or bad purpose.

They should then be banned. Confiscation of hammers should begin immediately.

Suppose we just ban 'assault hammers', i.e., those with a handle over 6" in length or a thong
through the handle, or both.

You probably think that is a joke but a thong on a sawed off pool cue
makes it a weapon in DC

No, I knew about thongs!

Nails and hammers. What have they to do with this? Yep, nothing.

Think about it...Hammers don't kill, people kill.

Outlaw bad behavior. (That was funny the first time it was said!)

I should have realized this metaphor was too big a leap for the
simpletons in rec.boats.
