Do you think mimes are making fun of white people too? Most of the famous mimes were just doing non-offensive funny stuff, and the white face *some* of them used was not there to depict white people. Many circus clowns use whiteface. Do you think they are depicting white people? The blackfacers were making fun of what they thought was the stereotypical behavior of black people. Not necessarily. Do you think Al Jolsen was doing a stereotype? Did Gene Wilder offend you in Stir Crazy? Was Laurence Olivier offensive when he played Othello? 1. Absolutely. 2. The concept of wearing blackface offends me. 3. Olivier was a great actor, but there were first rate black actors who could have played and in fact did play the role, Paul Robeson, for one. In 1965, to have Olivier as Othello was more than a bit condescending to black actors. |

It's really surprising that you don't find yourself offensive. |

Harry is merely feigning his offense in order to mask his extreme racism so he can claim to be a progressive open minded liberal. None of which he really is. |
