Maggie, Hugh, and our partnering church speak with an officer.

Maggie, Sarah, our church partner, and I speak with an officer.

Blah Blah

What is illegal is setting up an unlicensed soup kitchen in the park.

If they want to feed these people in a real soup kitchen somewhere we
would only heard good things if we heard anything at all.

I am surprised a "law and order" guy like yourself would want
unlicensed, un inspected, non-permitted operations like this around.

Harry's soft underbelly aside, what sort of "God and Family" promoters
effectively outlaw local charity? I assume their $800 per day permit
applies to "a real soup kitchen somewhere" too.

Some homeless people have serious psychological problems and won't have
anything to do with shelters or soup kitchens. Others have had very real
bad experiences at those sorts of places. The key in effective social
services is to serve those in need where they are or where they will go.

The organization has been helping out the down and out for some time. To
me, what is going on there is just another manifestation of the
institutional racism that is coming to the surface again in the Carolinas.

I guarantee you that if someone set up a food kitchen in a park in DC,
it would be gone in an hour.
If it was in a little park near your house you would be the first to
complain. You moved to Calvert County to get away from those people,
just like all of your "white flight" neighbors.

Harry mistook the lawn jocky on his neighbor's lawn for something else,
and just built on and embellished that observation.

Great progressive term, "racism," but that has nothing to do with
this. It is clearly a version of class warfare, but a war against the
helpless. Here is a vision of what "Republican" has begun to mean.

Teddy Roosevelt must be spinning in his grave.

I agree that the term "racism" has been kicked around so much that it is
getting diluted. But there ARE some true ones here in rec.boats!

What? We moved to Calvert County to "get away from those people" in DC?
What? We've never lived in DC, or, in fact, anywhere where there were
crowds of homeless people being fed outdoors in a park. We moved to
Calvert County to be closer to the Bay.

We've worked in DC, and, of course, we've seen lots of homeless people
in DC, in Virginia, in Florida, in California, just about everywhere.
There might even be a few down in No-where's-ville, Florida, in your
densely populated county.

You seem to be projecting a lot lately. Something changed in your life?

Are you far enough away from those people to feel comfortable? At around
5% in your area, it's probably as good as it can get for you.

I drove through the Home Depot parking lot over by College Park today and it there were about
40 guys eyeing my truck as I drove through the parking lot. My daughter wanted to know why
all of these men were eyeing my truck.
