Actually coyotes attack in packs as well as singularly. Ingle dogs here will take Fifi right off the leash of some dog walker in some areas. Bigger dogs, etc they pack attack. Big problem in Hollywood Hills for pets. Harry is a city boy who recently moved out to the country. Most of this stuff is foreign to him That's just plain stupid, Loogy/Scotty. I have heard a lot about Pizza in New Haven, the finer life in a dozen other cities but not much "outdoors" stuff unless it was on a handicap friendly trail within walking distance of the cruise ship or bus. Where would you see a coyote? A bear? I agree, unless you are sitting on the porch at 4AM on the perfect night, probably not at your house. Where would I have seen coyotes? I spent a lot of years out in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska. They have coyotes. As does every other state in the continental U.S. |

I asked my niece and she says she saw them in Ridge, just down the road from you.. Animals do show up in strange places. I almost hit a deer on the Whitehurst freeway in DC one night. He bailed out over the rail. I thought about going to go down on K street and look for it but I wasn't sure what I would do if I found it because I was not carrying. I figure it had at least 1 broken leg. (30 feet straight down to the concrete) and needed euthanasia. I figured a homeless guy ate it. But Harry's enclave doesn't permit them to come there. Somehow. |

I provided data that states that coyotes are indeed in your area. You've not provided **** otherwise. Ridge, Maryland, is about 50 miles from here, across a wide river and in the midst of an almost unpopulated area. It's hardly just "down the road." It wouldn't surprise me to learn that what your niece actually saw was a loose, small mixed breed German shepherd. I've seen any number of those that resemble coyotes. Right. They wouldn't be able to cross that river. They must have taken a ferry across the Mississippi. I'll let you know when I see an actual coyote in our back yard. You'll never know, you don't go outside. |

Most of these wild critters are nocturnal, and very careful about avoiding proximity to humans, or being seen by humans. That's how they've survived. So I don't listen to anybody who says "Not in my back yard" when the animal has been proven to be even 500 miles away. We've had two coyotes in a park about a half mile from where I live in Alexandria, VA, and I'm certainly not 'out in the country'. John (Gun Nut) H. -- Hope you're having a great day! |
