Sounds like a very small barrel of fun. Slammer and a buddy of his probably have a similar little barrel rolling around, propelled by insane and lonely laughter. As pretentious, wrong-headed, and often-full-of-**** as Krause is, he provides most of the entertainment here. Don't know why some people are "threatened" by that. But it is what it is. Pretty obvious most still posting here are enthralled to reacting to Harry, and have nothing of their own to contribute. Just has to be "All About Harry." He's easy enough to deal with politely, or can be ignored like anybody else. They just can't do that because their screws aren't properly torqued. Krauses rattles loose screws. He's an expert at that, and it's him having the fun. There are exceptions to the Harry-mania of course, including you, and they are appreciated. The others need a torque wrench and some Loktite. Probably won't happen, so the little show will go on, largely ignored by sane people. ---------------------------------------------- What I object to is the over the top, mean spirited, nasty comments, often directed at people's wives and/or kids who are nothing but innocent bystanders in the jousting contests. The other thing I can't accept is blatant racism. Not a goody two shoes, but I just have never been able to tolerate that. That's not to say the state of racial inequality can't be discussed, and recognizing that racism can go both ways. But calling people the "n" word in frustration just to emphasize a point is out of bounds, IMO. The one advantage I have here is that I know Jim pretty well. Haven't seen him in about four years and we rarely communicate privately but we've shared a lot of boating experiences and occasional get togethers since about 1995. He has taken on a newsgroup personna, mostly for the fun of it, just like Harry and many others. What you see here isn't necessarily what's real. I know the real JiminFla. Back when rec.boats was a decent, mostly boating related newsgroup Jim was often helpful to many in troubleshooting and resolving problems people had with their boats. Contrary to what some people say, he's knowledgeable was highly regarded around here in the boating scene. But since those days are gone (basically ended when GWB became president instead of Al Gore) the newsgroup has become more of a reflection of our politically polarized society with one side trying to squash the other. Harry has led the way unfortunately and represents a philosophy well outside of Jim's. Hope someday it will end, but doesn't seem like it will soon. Like our general society, it only seems to be getting worse. Whatever. |

I don't read his posts, except the few that sneak in second or third hand. |

I often comment and I might disagree with something you, Jim or someone else posts, but I don't begrudge your right to post it. My only exceptions are as noted in my previous post, over the op mean spirited, nasty or involving family members or blatant racism. I also try, not always with 100 percent success, to remain somewhat civil. |

I'm not trying to argue with you, but the very sort of behavior you disdain is the very sort of behavior in which your buddy engages. |

I'll watch for them however. It's not his style. |

I don't like being referred to as "white," as if my racial or ethnic background or skin color were designators of significance. Besides, I'm not "white," especially in the summer. I still tan up nicely! My wife and I participated in that National Geo genetic background thingie a couple of years ago. She's a composite of Northern European (Irish, German, English and one other I forgot, maybe Welsh), plus a bit of Cherokee. I'm mostly Russian, Polish, a bit of German, and a bit of Slavik. I wouldn't mind a bit of Welsh, since I am a big fan of Welsh accents but, alas, none of my predecessors made it to those Isles.
