Thanks. You know how this goes. They always look great in the
pictures and the brokers write them up like the owners spared no
expense in upkeep and maintenance. I've bought a lot of boats over
the years .... two brand new .... the Navigator and the '37 Egg
Harbor. Learned my lesson well and won't do that again. But buying
used always involves some risk, even with a good surveyor. I am
planning my budget with enough "extra" to hopefully cover the
unexpected.

I am limited to 36' or thereabouts. We have a "dockominium" on the
Cape (Kingman Yacht Center) that will take a 36 LOA and up to a 14'
beam. They will probably let me go up to 38', but that’s it, so I
have to stay in that range. Should have kept the 55' slip that we
sold, but who knew?

I think I've narrowed it down to a Sabreline 36 or 38. I've like
them from the first time I saw one. They make a 36' trawler ... twin
diesel that I like. I've also found a 36' Sabre Express Cruiser that
interests me although I prefer to have a main cabin at main deck
level. I don't like "cave dweller" boat designs at all. I get
claustrophobia in them.

Funny thing is ... I almost bought one of these a few years ago. I
really liked the boat and I understand that they are a highly rated
builder. I put a deposit on it but the survey was a disaster. The
previous owner was a "handyman" of sorts and had done a lot of
modifications that included many new below the waterline hull
penetrations. The hull was almost 30 percent waterlogged due to his
unfortunate amateur work. The surveyor pulled me aside (the seller
was present at the survey) and strongly recommended that I pass on
the boat. He earned his fee.

In the crowded harbor it's a bit tricky whizzing into a 2 liter ice cream container and dumping without too much exposure.

If I'm not mistaken, dumping from anything is illegal. On the other hand, peeing directly into the
water is OK.
