A friend is seeking boats, so we checked out a few that were of interest in Huntington. 1980 C&C landfall 38 Nice boat topsides, but the cabin was filled with wasted space. The oddly positioned bulkhead seperating the nav station and aft berths just makes for a cluttered boat. The galley was nice, but all else was lacking. Fit and finish nice as with most C&Cs. On deck...lots of room and comfortable cockpit. Catalina 32 Well, Suzanne liked it! She even wondered if it was nicer below than the 34xl (it isn't!). A lot of room for a small boat that sails well enough for most people. On deck: Roomy cockpit, wide side decks...I didn't like the bulky pedestal. The broker said he was once a Island Packet dealer and he felt Butler's contruction was not far off in quality. I didn't agree. I could see lots of seams and 4200 along bulkhead-to-coach roof joints. The floor was plastic faux teak....the only real teak were the hatchboards. "This boat feels more like motel 6 than a boat.," I said. Suzanne thought we'd have plenty of fun with it anyway. I don't regret the 34XL one bit. Well....the search for my friend's next boat continues... RB |
