The previous owner had taken it everywhere imaginable, even to the west coast via the Panama Canal. I never ventured more than a few miles offshore with it because the engine had over 7000 hours on it. It always ran though and never had a problem with it. The only problem I ever had with diesels was with the Navigator. It was the first season I had it and was on the way to Florida. Pulled into some marina in Delaware somewhere due to a heavy thunderstorm and after we tied up I couldn't shut one of the engines down. Both the flybridge control key and the pilothouse control key did nothing. Engine just sat there idling. After about an hour and a phone call to the dealer who then had a Volvo rep call me, I learned about the manual fuel shut off lever mounted on the side of the engine. That finally stopped it but the troubleshooting began to determine why the key wouldn't shut it off. Turns out turning and holding the key to the hard left powers a solenoid in the fuel line that stops fuel flow and kills the engine. There was a "resettable fuse" on the control box that had popped. Reset it and never had the problem again in the 9 years we had the boat. Guess that's how you learn. |

I had just run them by a Naval Architect friends' drawing board, he added one inch to the transom at chine two and I faired it into the rest of the hull, and it was ready to go... Then my dad called. I also have a planked Whaler clone type 20 footer that would make a great bass boat.. Might just build that one too. Right now we are consolidating and paying off a couple bills, then we are selling both homes and moving to the woods to do our own thing. For me, that may just be building boats again... Excellent idea, Scott. I've seen pics of your finished work and remember some of your graphic hull designs you've posted in the way past. . I really think you should get back into it... |

Yup, looking at a piece of property over in the eastern part of the state. 100 yards of frontage on a local trout river with a public right of way boat launch in the corner of the property. The river leads down about a 100 yard run to a huge lake.. The other side of the property has 20 acres of cleared meadow for the horses. And the next "Property" over happens to have a 50 acre motocross track (from the air views) but I don't know who owns it, and then off to hundreds of acres of state forest... Anyway, we could sell both homes, pay our bills off an afford it but it would leave us with less than 50 grand and there is no house on the property yet... Houseboat, dude!! Tie to the dock and live aboard! |
