From our anchorage we can see planes coming in on final approach at
what looks to be a fairly steep ange of descent over a hill top. Yesterday we went out to the airport to rent a car for the day and I couldn't believe just how difficult an approach it is. Planes always land into the east against the prevailing trade winds. The western end of the runway, where they first touch down, is at the bottom of a steep hill. At the top of the hill is a small traffic circle with a large cross over to the side of the road which marks the spot of a crash in 2001. http://www.airliners.net/photo/WinAi...ada/2003400/L/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustaf_III_Airport Better to come here by boat I think. |
