I am sure the gun manufacturers have influence and so do some of the politicians that represent hard core "red" states. They can defend the right to high capacity magazines, "assault" type guns, etc., and although I personally don't see any need for them, I can at least understand their arguments. But a background check to purchase a gun? That should be a no-brainer. I The gun manufactures have more than influence. They run the show, which has changed for the NRA. It used to be much more member driven. |

Things have changed a bit since 1788 and changes to laws are sometimes required. For example, I'd like to see a uniform travel law established for permitted, legal gun owners. There's no Federal law restricting inter-state travel but each state has it's own set of rules and reciprocity agreements. I can't travel from MA to SC to visit my son with a gun in my car without violating the law in several states. In many ways I think traveling down RT 95 through New York, New Jersey, and other areas south is probably more dangerous than some war zones if you happen to be forced to stop in the wrong places. |

Anyone who joins the NRA right now is a friggin' idiot. If there was ever an organization that had gone awry, this is it. Depending on the poll, between 70 and 90% of the American people want mandated background checks on all gun sales and yet the NRA vehemently opposes. But at least do your jobs and vote. I wonder why, if the members themselves are overwhelmingly okay with background checks, that the bigwigs aren't. It appears that as long as the general media's preferred candidate is holding the presidencey they are ok with having the rights of their opposition media outlets threatend. It was in Huff Post.
