Anyone who joins the NRA right now is a friggin' idiot. If there was
ever an organization that had gone awry, this is it. Depending on the
poll, between 70 and 90% of the American people want mandated
background checks on all gun sales and yet the NRA vehemently opposes.

I venture to guess that many members will cancel or allow their
memberships to lapse after this round of stupid lunacy.

-------------------------------------------

It's not the members. 74% of the NRA membership support universal
background checks. The nut case is Wayne LaPierre who happens to get
all the media publicity. BTW ... he's not even the President of the
NRA. He performs the roll of CEO and is the national spokesman and loud
mouth. Problem is he doesn't present membership views ... only his own.

As often said, "Don't judge a book by it's cover".

I am beyond disgusted with the group of Republicans who refuse to even
hold a simple vote and are threatening to filibuster any gun control
bill. They are claiming that the Democrats might try to sneak in a
couple of amendments that they couldn't support, so therefore no vote.
Can't they read? If they don't like the bill vote no. But at least
do your jobs and vote.

I think the goal is to block any legislation that the current
administration is pushing. I might be wrong.

That's certainly a big part of it.

I think it's going to backfire on them this time. Even those who are

Wasn't it Pelosi who single handedly prevented all voting in the house?

It sure is the job they were elected to do. They were elected to represent their constituency
and they are duty bound to use any and all legislative tools available to do that.

The really sad thing is that the greater media is not out in force supporting the Fox
correspondent who is threatened with jail in reporting on the Colorado shooting incident. It
appears that as long as the general media's preferred candidate is holding the presidencey
they are ok with having the rights of their opposition media outlets threatend.

Please provide an objective source for your "74% of the NRA membership support universal
backgroud checks."

Why don't you and others propose a constitutional amendment that will detail the changes you
wish to make and get it passed through the amendment process.

The Senators who are threatening a filibuster now are no different than the Senators who
threatened a filibuster over judicial nominations. The knife cuts both ways.

These will get you started. Objectivity is up to you to determine:

Not objective.

No reference to where the 74% comes from.

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/01/ny-poll-big-backing-for-assault-ban-86333.html

Not objective.

http://www.thecrimereport.org/news/crime-and-justice-news/2013-02-polls-support-background-checks

Nearly three quarters (74 percent) of NRA members supported requiring a background check
system ?for all gun sales? in a January online survey by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School
of Public Health (respondents were recruited offline using a probability sampling method).

This poll is suspect on its face.

They also sell various other items, holsters, etc, etc, and even books for those who need to learn
more about the use of weapons and, especially, safeties. Their concealed carry book would probably

I'd bet more than 90% would like background checks if we could get the
gang-bangers to comply.
