We were up here a ways on the Arizona New Mexico trip.
Bryce Canyon and Zion

Two of the best. Our next big, i.e., longer than a week or so, will probably be to Yellowstone and
Grand Teton, with sightseeing in between. Maybe next year. This year's getting booked pretty solid.

It must be a real drag pulling that luxurious 5th wheel all over the
countryside and seeing all those marvelous sites while enjoying all the
creature comforts and not having to deal with suitcases.

Ever think of sandwiching yourself into an airplane between two fat
smelly people and doing a flyover instead?

Been there, done that, it sucks!

My wife is the navigator. She's got the little ipad or pod or whatever the hell it is that connects
to the internet while we're traveling. She also bought a book called, "Next Exit" which is a great
source of info while traveling on the interstates. The trailer we bought is nice in that everything
can be used without using the slideouts. That was one of the main criteria in choosing it. Many of
the floor pans don't allow access to refer's, stoves, sinks, couches, etc. when the slides are in.
That means 'setting up' to spend the night somewhere. We can pull in to a 'Flying J' and spend the
night with all the comforts - and it's free!

I was in Chicago for a few days last week. It's about 750 miles from
here and is at least a 12 hour drive through Pennsylvania, Ohio, and
Indiana, along routes best "flown over." Blech. Took a jet, had aisle
seat both ways.

Hour and a half flight each way. Plus an hour arrival early at the
airport. No luggage wait, since I used a carry-on bag.

Got a meeting coming up in Seattle later this year. 2800 miles. At least
two days worth of driving if you don't stop for very long. No thanks.

To each his own.

A trailer is not the thing to take on jobs. Flying to Seattle for a meeting sounds like the planners
have their heads up their butts. Do it over Skype. My wife does a lot of conference calling and
meeting attendance from home using software provided by the company she's consulting for.

I don't like driving long distances. We visit Florida a few times a year
for various reasons, and most of the time we either fly or take the
train. The drive isn't bad if we break it up and spend the night in a
motel somewhere, but driving straight through is not something we enjoy.
I've had trips to Minnesota, the Dakotas, Wyoming and Montana, and there
are plenty of beautiful places, but I've never felt the need to drive
there to get to them when I can fly there and rent a car. To each his own.

This is your vacation. Get off the extra few bucks and fly first
class.
They don't screw with you about your bags, you have a quick line
through ticketing and security and they treat you a lot nicer on the
plane. Oh and you can change your ticket or even get your money back.

It is like what flying used to be 40 years ago, inflation adjusted,
about the same price.

I wasn't going to mention that fact. Frequent flyer miles are your friend.

We spent a week in the Tetons on our Idaho Wyoming trip (Grand Targhee
resort) That is 8000 feet, going up to over 10,000 so air is hard to
come by ;-)
http://gfretwell.com/ftp/Idaho%20Wyo...t%20Targee.jpg
http://gfretwell.com/ftp/Idaho%20Wyo...etons%20Wy.jpg
That was a good starting place to get to Jackson
http://gfretwell.com/ftp/Idaho%20Wyo...etons%20Wy.jpg
and the south entrance into Yellowstone that lets you avoid all of
those crowds around Old Faithful.

We then looped around through Montana and spent a few days at Coeur
D'alene. That is another nice place.
http://gfretwell.com/ftp/Idaho%20Wyo...ne%20Idaho.jpg

We all saw beach volley ball on TV but they play in the mud in Idaho.
http://gfretwell.com/ftp/Idaho%20Wyo...0Arco%20ID.jpg

Some great shots. Don't know if I'd want to drag the trailer up that first road, but there's
probably a campsite down below. Mud volleyball looks like it could be an interesting thing to watch,
depending on the players.
