It's not the destination, it's the journey, is the way I look at

it.

As Cunard used to say: "Getting there is half the fun."

Also, great book, "The Only Way To Cross."

I'd rather *be* in Europe, Hawaii, or South America than wasting

days
*getting* to Europe, or Hawaii, or South America.

Why are you so fearful of boats? Didn't you have one at one time?

Using your example, I might stop at Sarasota,

Tampa/Clearwater, look up
Frogwatch, Destin, Pensacola, gulf beaches, on my way to

the Alabama
state line. Or if you were heading to Georgia you might

want to visit
some theme parks and St Augustine along the way.

But to each his own. Right?

I have been to all of those places. We like to see new places

Can't find new places if you fly over top of them.

You can't see them on the interstate at 80 on the ground

either. That
is why we pick a state or two and spend 2-3 weeks there.

Things are
far enough apart, even then.

I love to travel by car when I have the time. Most people think

of going
from PA to FL as being on I-95, I don't. I don't know how many

times
I've made the trip on how many different routes. All of them

very
enjoyable to me.

I've got a meeting in Philly coming up this fall. It's only for

a few
days and I won't have the time to go wandering before or after

the
meeting. Been to Philly many times; my dad was born there, and

lived in
Elkins Park. Later, the family moved to Massachusetts. Anyway,

I'm sure
I'll go up there and back on Amtrak.

From you to Philly there isn't very much to see!

Not along the Interstate . The train ride is pleasant and short.

Let me guess. You like to count telephone poles along the way?

Still not much to see except the blighted neighborhoods that struggle
to survive along a railroad track.
It is a trip best done at night ... in the club car..

Well, there's also the railroad stuff, which is interesting, plus
greenways, rehabbed areas, and the like. I suppose I am not the downer
you are, seeing the "dark side" of everything I encounter.

It's only an hour and a half from here to Philly, via Acela, and two
hours via the slower trains. By the time you get aboard, buy a coffee,
and read the paper, you're there.

I'll happily drive the 3.5 hours to Virginia Beach or Ocean City.

If the government doesn't already confiscate passports belonging to tax
cheats, they should.
