Yes, they claim to have a .100 gauge thick aluminum bottom and sides.
It sure seems solid compared to the Princecraft Yukon.
These boats are made in Northern Ontario and seem to offer a bit more
than the competition for the buck...at least up here where everything
is a bit more expensive.

Nice thing is..they include the items most people may want and show
the somewhat fixed price right in their catalogue.
Bad thing.. they start off with undersized motors to keep prices low
so you automatically have to 'upgrade' right from the get go.

From what I've seen over the years, a marginally sized outboard as
standard equipment is pretty much the norm for all boat manufacturers.
I think you were wise to opt for the bigger one.

Yes it's a degree or two above freezing and with memories of the

weekend visit to the Halifax International Boat Show, I'll taks a

brave step and show a promotional video of my new boat.

This video shows items in a beige colour that went to black on my 2012

model.

Boat came with a full stand up canvas protection. I upgraded to the

Mercury 60 Big Foot outboard,Deluxe Contour swivel seats and

galvanized trailer, bought a travel cover, engine cover, transom saver

etc.

Yes, Bass Pro's line of bass boats at the entry level are very
underpowered, worse so than most brands. They actually sell a 17 foot
bass boat with a 25 hp Merc as standard equipment!

Nice boat! Might not get you into the deep stuff, but there's a lot of water around you that looks
just right for that thing.

Nice boat, and just the right size for what you want to do on the water.

Trouble is the dealer had the 18 and 20 foot Xcalibur models next to my 16 model at the boat show. That 18 would have been a good compromise for an extra $5k, but I would have had to buy a better tow vehicle right away.
Also saw the ComPac Sunday Cat sailboat. A bIt pricey at $26k including the trailer and mooring cover but it had me dreaming.

Get Harry to teach you how to cheat the tax man and you'll soon have
enough loonies for that bigger boat you've always wanted.

Back in the day, about 75% of the runabout style boats my dad sold were
in the 14-16 foot range, with 25-40 hp max outboards for use on Long
Island Sound, which can get quite choppy. The last few years of his
dealership, he switched to Merc outboards and every manufacturer started
to offer larger boats that required larger engines. But the smaller
boats are still popular on the Sound. I still see lots of 16-footers
every summer when I visit Connecticut, although they tend to be plastic
rather than aluminum.

As a young kid I spent some very happy hours on my dad's 16' Thompson.
This is as close to it as I could find.

The motor was an older white Mercury 60hp and it felt pretty fast at the
time. I remember he literally ran circles around one of his friends
once just to rub it in.

Those old wooden runabouts sure we're pretty.
A neat model was listed on the local Kijiji at a very modest price but I was nervous about upkeep.
