to do with supporting workers rights??? You do know that's what unions

Because we've been lectured for years here in this newsgroup about how
only union workers are truly qualified and competent for the work that
they perform. Non-union labor is substandard in the eyes of some.
So, I am curious as to the special skill sets of union supermarket
employees.

There are two major supermarkets in my area, one is union and the other
is non-union. The kids, 16 to 18, don't want to work at the union store
due to the fact that even if they don't work during the course of a week
they are still obligated to pay their union dues. The major difference
between the two stores is that the unionized one has higher prices for
their goods than the non-unionized one.

The question becomes what special skill set does a 16 year old union
member posses in order to enable them to stock a shelf and run a cash
register. Presumably the union supermarket job requires more skill than
doing the same thing at the non-union supermarket and McDonald's.

No. The question becomes how stupid do you have to be to use the
handle BAR.

I went to your link and this is the first "review" I saw.

Pros ? Union protected, guaranteeing seniority of hours, College
programs

Cons ? Managers dont care, no communication, pulling teeth for money
your obligated to

Advice to Senior Management ? You need to work on making your workers
happy before satifying your customers.
