Some of Herring's happy wal mart food customers: Wal Mart Consumer Complaints & Reviews Melidna of San Diego, CA on Jan. 27, 2013 Satisfaction Rating2/5 On 1/26/13, I purchased a 16 oz. pack of Great Value Easy Melt Pasteurized Prepared Cheese product. When I went to use it, I pulled the carton top up and the foil that wraps the cheese opened up. When I turned the foil over, there was hard, dried cheese along the area that was opened. I couldn't use the cheese. The code on top of the box is 21:05 BEST BY 05/13/13 FU 0000. The UPC# is 0-78742-01512-5. I purchased this at my local Walmart in Encinitas, CA. I also had a bad experience with Walmart's 1 lb. bag of frozen Salmon - it was mushy and not at all edible. What does Walmart do to ensure that the consumer can buy their private brands and not be disappointed or inconvenienced? Jacqueline of Lake Luzerne, NY on Nov. 30, 2012 Satisfaction Rating1/5 On 11/30/2012, my son and I were picking up some groceries at the Walmart on Route 9 in Queensbury, New York. We were in the produce aisle when we watched birds come out of the ceiling and leave droppings on the floor and on the produce; to be specific the fresh Italian Parsley. The birds were landing on it and eating it, plus leaving droppings on it ..When we brought this to the manger's attention, my son was told as he walked away and never even stopped long enough to address him with respect, said over his shoulder "We are aware of this." My son was treated very rudely and without respect, this should have never happened. Camila of Miami, FL on Nov. 29, 2012 Satisfaction Rating1/5 Rotten Starkist tuna with maggots - On 11/28/2012, I went to your Walmart store on 157 Avenue and 88 St. in Miami, FL 33196 to make my weekly purchases as always. I am a regular customer of Walmart and never have I come across something so disgusting in my life. I got home and began unpacking my groceries. I noticed that there was a weirdly strong scent coming from one of the bags. I looked inside and there lay some asparagus, tuna and mushrooms. As I was concerned that it may have been the vegetables, I removed those from the bag first but the smell remained. There I saw that the plastic of the tuna was wet with what seemed to be the remains of another broken can, etc. As I was hoping this was the case, I placed the 4-pack of Starkist tuna in my sink and began to remove the outer plastic to wash the container. Little did I know what I would soon be encountering. I opened the plastic slightly and my kitchen was instantaneously flooded with a wretched odor that was impregnated in my nose. Not only that, but I removed the plastic a bit more and maggots fell out of the can! This was the most disgusting and unsanitary thing I have ever had to encounter! Not only was it terrible to my senses, but to my hygiene as well. Now 12 hours later, I am beginning to feel sick. I do not know if the exposure to the rotten fish might have had anything to do with it, but I am worried for my health. This is of extremely high concern to me because I used to trust your products and now I will not be able to consume anything from your stores without doubting the integrity and regulation screenings they have passed. I do not understand how the FDA does not have regulations against this nor can I fathom how your employees do not screen your products thoroughly enough to find a broken tuna can with maggots. Attached you will find a photo of this ordeal. I am honestly just concerned about how this was not in your control. Tara of Nanticoke, PA on Nov. 6, 2012 Satisfaction Rating1/5 On 11/3/12, I purchased some buffalo chicken sliced meat from the deli department at the Walmart in Wilkes Barre, PA. After making lunch for my self and my children, we all became ill within a couple of hours of eating it. We had terrible stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. It is now 2 days later, and the meat smells. I have had it in my ROSEMARY of Mountain Home, AR on Oct. 5, 2012 Satisfaction Rating1/5 I've bought dozens of pizzas from Walmart. Today, I bought the usual Friday night pizza. When I took the box from the fridge, it smelled so strong of insecticide. I even got a bitter taste in my mouth from sniffing it. Now this is certainly huge enough, but the 'customer service' got nasty with me. She said, "Ok, just bring it back and we'll give you a refund." I said, "Are you hearing me? There is insecticide on the pizza box and all you can say is I'll give you a refund?!" For crying out loud, this is dangerous! I asked for the store manager who never did come to the phone. I'm having this box analyzed. The attitudes of the employees at Walmart are horrible. I think you all need some good healthy competition. Roland of San Antonio, TX on Sept. 30, 2012 Satisfaction Rating1/5 Let me start by saying the store employees confirmed, after I showed them the spoiled meat, that it happens often in the meat market. One worker from the seafood deli said he himself had pulled off meats from the shelf that were also expired over a month. I was going to buy a pork loin in there meat market section about 6:30pm on Sept. 29th, 2012. When I lifted it up to look at, it I smelled something awful! It was the meat and not only that one; it had leaked and contaminated all the other meats on that section of the shelf. As I hope whoever reads this letter will know that this is serious to have spoiled meats and for them to be sold to the public like that. I told the guy in the seafood deli to please call a manager as the meat market people are gone for the day. I waited 20 minutes and no one came. That's when the same guy from the seafood department came over and said, "Let me try to help you. What's wrong?" I told him to smell this meat. The first thing he did was look at the date and said this happens a lot in the meat department and I'm not going to lie. He said he himself has pulled meats he saw out of date over one month and has spotted some in customers carts and told them "No, you can't buy that; it's out of date." When I put it back and went to the cashier to call the manager as he never came, a young man came up as the front store manager and I told him what was wrong. He said, "Oh I'm sorry." I walked off to the front of the store and said, "No, you have to go pull that stuff off now, not later because that's serious having those spoiled meats on the shelf." He then said okay and left again. Let me tell you I've seen out of date meats before at this same Walmart and why is the store manager letting this stuff happen over and over? If this continues, I will say this: Next time I'm shopping there, I will go take a cart, find all the out of date meats myself put them all in the cart, call the news team from my local city or Behind The Kitchen Doors Team from the local news channel and let them come see how Walmart is letting is putting the public at risk. There is no excuse to their turning a blin eye to this matter. Denna of South Paris , ME on Sept. 3, 2012 Satisfaction Rating1/5 The girl at the counter handed me the bucket and I went through the cash register. I opened the bucket between me and my daughter in my VW Beetle (tiny car) and picked and ate as I shifted and drove, not paying attention to the chicken but the road. So let's get the story right. I decided to take her and our drinks to the park with our chicken for lunch she was more interested in playing than eating. From the store to Moore Park is a 10- or 15-minute drive depending on traffic. We got to the park, I put the cover on the chicken, tied the bag, grabbed my soda and her drink, and my phone. We went into the park, she went in the fenced area while I sat with the chicken at the picnic table. I did not open the chicken in the bag that was tied up until I got home, which was a half an hour later. I took some items to my brother-in-law and husband's bear bait site in the field and came back to the house, which altogether takes anywhere from 8 to 10 minutes from the park to my house. Then a 4-minute drive down my backfield to the bait site. My daughter and I walked inside, put our stuff on the counter and she said, "Mommy can I have some more popcorn chicken?" I said, "Sure hon, get mommy the bucket and a fork." She brought it over to me. I untied the bag and opened the cover. She went to eat a piece in which she did of the popcorn chicken and I went to stab a piece of the General Tso's with a fork because it's saucy and I didn't have a fork at my disposal in my car (who does, right?). I looked into the bucket and saw these little patches of whatever on the chicken and upon further inspection, saw the maggots in the corner of the bucket. I flipped out, swore and immediately grabbed my phone to video what I was seeing so I could show it to my mom on Facebook in FL because she does not have a smartphone with media apps, etc. I tried calling my friend Dawn, no answer, so I called my mom and told her what I was going to share with her and my friends. I had this chicken for a total of maybe an hour and a half from the time I bought it to the time I posted the disgusting video. I brought this to the attention of the manager before I even posted it to Facebook or YouTube. I never received one apology for what was in our lunch. I got, "I don't use that language, I would appreciate you not speak to me with that language." Guess what public? I apologized to her! Then she said, "You did say you were at the park (okay, she would not let me finish to tell her the bag was tied before she started to point the finger back at me), then said, "We cook our meat fresh every two hours." Okay fine, but you're going to accuse me at the get-go and not look into the matter, not go to the deli and find out how or why, or investigate if there was a problem. You point the finger at the consumer. She offered for me to leave the bucket at home and said at my leisure, I could come get my $12 back. They never shut down the deli, they continued to serve food to customers. When one customer went into Walmart, she mentioned to one of the other people about my video. The man walked away, the managers came out and a very tall, heavy man named Peter appeared and told her to leave the store. If she didn't, he would call the cops. A food inspection was done two days later, giving them time to clean and fix any possible things that could have been in violation. Why was this not done when I called? Had I known, I would have called the health inspector first. I have received hate mail because of this instance. I had not eaten for three days straight and emotionally have been having a hard time with how it was handled - the way I was treated and the false statement the paper made on the matter has caused the community to look upon us, my family, like we are fraud, scammers, unfit parents and I have been made fun of being called a fat pig, slob scam. I was told I'm mentally unstable and the list goes on and on. This has caused pain, suffering and emotional distress on many levels. The manager lied to the MDA in the report, telling him I had been with the food eating it at the park for 4 hours. The comments made from Walmart to the public through media and papers have been completely different than the reports and what was originally said (they can't keep their story straight). Sun Journal and Bangor daily news have both written an article about this stating I had spoken to a lawyer, when that was not true at all and added a paragraph about me that was unrelated to the story, causing a public outrage demeaning me and my family and making us look bad to our community. We can't go to any store without getting looked at and talked about. You can see some of the nasty comments on the YouTube page under "contaminated Walmart chicken." I have been trying to defend myself against all the negative people. Kay of Caldwell, OH on Aug. 11, 2012 Satisfaction Rating1/5 We went to the Marietta Walmart to get our groceries. We first used the restroom up front. It was absolutely filthy. Papers were all over the floor and counters, and it was painfully obvious that it had not been cleaned for quite some time. It made us physically ill. We left without getting our groceries and will never go back. Linda of Burns Flat, OK on July 24, 2012 Satisfaction Rating1/5 I watched the video on the cruelty of pigs at the farms where Wal-Mart buys its pork. I will buy most of my groceries at United Supermarkets or Homeland. I probably will shop and buy some items at Wal-Mart, but I promise it will not be meat products until Wal-Mart takes a stand against factory farms that use gestation crates and beat sick and injured pigs to death by banging their heads against the cement. Also, I couldn't believe the open wounds that most of the pigs had and how horrible they treated the baby pigs. There were dead baby pigs laying everywhere. How dare you expect me to feed my family on food that is unsafe. They weren't healthy. The poor sows were in these horribly small crates all their life, and they would bang their heads over and over again in frustration. I will not eat meat that comes from these conditions. And I hope the president of this fine company watched this video and finds it as disturbing as I did. Oh, by the way, they give you a good close up after they beat these poor baby pigs to death on the cement. It shows them jerking and still alive barely. They beat them to death, because they were sickly. Whose fault was that? You can see blood all over the floor, and the place was filthy. And there are open sores that you can see has been there for a while. You can't tell me that Wal-Mart can't find a more humane producer to buy from? How inhumane this company is! Cathy of Tallahassee, fl on June 26, 2012 Satisfaction Rating2/5 I shop at the Wal-Mart on Thomasville Road near Kerry Forest in Tallahassee, Florida. I have purchased spoiled/bad food several times from this Wal-Mart location. I found that the Wal-Mart brand milk does not stay fresh but sours before the expiration date. I have purchased Wal-Mart brand stick butter that was spoiled. I have purchased Hillshire Farms lunch meat in the Rubbermaid type container which was spoiled. I have purchased ground round that had a good date on it but the meat was spoiled. I find that when I return the items, the staff in customer service always refunds your money without any hassle. What is disturbing is their lack of concern when you tell them about spoiled food. Their attitude gives the impression that they have spoiled food returned regularly and it is no big deal. I believe there is a significant problem with the handling of food by the Wal-Mart employees. I would not feel safe purchasing food from a Wal-Mart store for my family. Joanne of Mesa, AZ on June 26, 2012 Satisfaction Rating2/5 Tainted Great Value sugar 5lbs - Sugar in my coffee made me sick. It took a week to figure out it was the sugar. Also, it gave me and everyone else in the house diarrhea. I looked inside the sugar bag and there were black flakes in it. They weren't bugs. I still have the rest of this poison sugar. Kathleen of Accomac, VA on June 18, 2012 Satisfaction Rating2/5 I was traveling to Baltimore and stopped at the Walmart on North Point Blvd. I had to use the lady's room and when I went in, it was a mess. The door on one of the stalls was falling off it wouldn't even shut. The next stall had a mess on the floor. The next stall had a brown mess on the top of the toilet paper holder (it was finger polish). Now if you do have people that come in to clean, they would have had to see this then get it off! The area is not a great one, so extra vigilance should be taken and that all boils down to management. When I came out of the bathroom, I did mention the mess to one gentleman and he did say maintenance was in charge of them. Well, they are not doing a very good job. Someone needs to contact that Walmart and get them to clean up. I will be going back to see if my time was not wasted sending this email. If someone needs to call me, this is also welcomed. Farouk of Plano, TX on June 13, 2012 Satisfaction Rating2/5 I had guests for dinner on Friday, 06/08/2012; and I went to Wal-Mart to buy some fresh raw chicken. Although the expiry date was still good (2-3 more days), a very bad/rotten smell was found when I opened the package at home. As I live very close to the store, about 3 miles, I rushed back to return it and make sure no other families get sick or poisoned. I have asked the customer service department to talk to the store manager. I urged the manager to check on all other remaining same items in the fridge to make sure no other customers buy the same bad product and get sick. After checking, 2 more bad packages were found by the manager and his meat department manager. The 3 packages (including mine) were kept inside the store freezer. As a result, I requested to file a formal complaint at Wal-Mart, so they take necessary action. The store manager offered to give me a $20 gift card and return my money back. I decided to get my money I paid only. Yesterday (06/12/12), a representative from the "chicken company" called me and offered to compensate me with some free coupons to buy the same products, but I also refused as I don't trust this food company and the way they handle their food safety measures. I was hoping to hear that they have taken proper action to recall the product from all stores/markets as part of the USDA procedures in such cases! My wife is in her 2nd-month pregnancy, and we could have all ended in a real tragedy, should we and our guests eat from that rotten chicken. Please let me know how can I sue Wal-Mart and their "chicken company" to get fair compensation and stop them selling spoiled food to people, as there could be lots of the same bad meat all over the country, still. James of Byromville, GA on June 13, 2012 Satisfaction Rating1/5 The Wal-Mart Store located on 1215 E. 16th Avenue, Cordele, GA sold James a box of stale crackers.
