I used to have a 303 Lee Enfield (sports conversion) rifle but sold it about 25 years ago.

Oh man. My favorite!

Funny...when we were kids you could buy those WW2 surplus rifles at a grocery store in the heart of Halifax. Then they tightened up and I had to go to a home improvement store to get mine.
I sold it to the cleaner at work for 15 or 20 dollars.
I should have kept it.
Have to admit the 'conversion' was a bit crude with most of the original heavy wood running along the barrel being chopped away.

No doubt!

Now a good sample runs about $150-200. USD. I never could see taking a
hack saw to that fine full length wood.

BTW, Don, I also have the .410 Enfield "Forage rifle" and the .22
trainer. the .22 is rare, and the .410 is rarer yet.

My favorite is my BSA made in 1903 but my best is the 1953 made in
"Long Branch"

It was the weapon of choice during the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in India.

It was just about the only weapon of choice by the British and it's
tributaries from about 1895 to 1957 and in some British military
applications to 1960, and it still the issued cartridge for the
Vickers machine gun to this day. . Even with the Royal Canadian
Rangers (Arctic Div.) still use it as standard issue if i remember
correctly.

It's probably the only standard military cartridge and bolt-action
rifles to have been used by a nation for a hundred years, and the
rifles had very few variants to it's design.

Besides, it was the great defender against the tyranny of the
Imperial and Nazi German invaders in two world wars.

If it works, don't fix it.

A car passed us today. On one side was a sticker for the U.S. Marine Corps. On the other was a
sticker saying, "True Happiness is a Belt-fed Weapon!"

That strikes me as a rather unbalanced view of "true happiness"... to
each his own.

See, you've probably not fired the M-60, M-85 or M-2. All belt fed, all fun to shoot.
