Default Roller Furlings

I am adding a roller furling to my Catalina 30 and wanted to know if
anyone has any recommendations on furlings out there? My boat is 30
ft. I've been looking at CDI's furlings- they seem like a good deal
(about $1200 for my boat). What additional work needs to be done to
the sail? I have a 150 Gen.

Let me know your thoughts on this- thanks.

I'm in the same boat grin. I just bought a C30 (#199)with a 150 Genoa
and plan to have roller furling added to make her easier to sail. Kindly
share any info or advice you get.
TIA

Just don't do it.
On all the different boats I've sailed the roller furling didn't work
correctly when most needed.
My own boat has no roller reefing anywhere in sight copnsequently
And will never have

Why are you adding roller furling? really?

Do you already have a nice set of jib, genoa, and storm jib?

Do you really want to use only one jib all the time?

Do you really think the new roller furler will set well partly furled in a
blow?

Are you simply too lazy to hank on a headsail on a 30' boat?

It's up to you, it's your boat. I like hanking my headsails. Hopefully I
can get a young crewmate to stuff them in the bag though.

John.

I asked myself the same question when I bought my new/old boat. I'd
sailed in 20' boats a "few" years back and had never a problem bagging
or unbagging a jib. Then my surveyor left my head sail in a clump and I
quickly made two discoveries: 1) that the intervening 40 years had been
less than kind and 2)that the 150 Genny for my C30 was *mucho* harder to
fold and bag than those I recalled. Stepping onto the dock, my thrice
broken back and ribs protesting, I noted that *all* the newer boats had
odd bandages wrapped around their headstays. "Whazzat" I asked, and
moments later - my poor old tired bod reinforcing the decision - I
decided I'd add roller furling.

If I was still 25 ....
