I think the argument is based on the fact that you can have all the
commercialism you want but you can't actually celebrate the birth of
Christ. Is there a nativity scene in Rockefeller center? No


It looks more and more that way.

The real humbug is the fact that this became a shopping holiday the
day after Labor Day.


The local "China-mart" had some Christmas 'stuff' out before then...

Rockefeller Center is privately owned. Its management can decorate with
whatever holiday scenes it wishes without running afoul of the
Constitution.

One of our area Wal-Marts, one with a public sidewalk out in front of
it, was being picketed over the weekend, but not because of holiday
decorations.
