I think the argument is based on the fact that you can have all the
commercialism you want but you can't actually celebrate the birth of
Christ. Is there a nativity scene in Rockefeller center? No
The real humbug is the fact that this became a shopping holiday the
day after Labor Day.
Rockefeller Center is *privately* owned. Its owners, if they wanted,
could hire a dark-complexioned, Middle Eastern Jewish baby to pose in a
a cradle in a creche scene on the premises, and it wouldn't violate the
Wall of Separation.
