Maybe we should be spending a little more time figuring out why people

This is similar to the way we are handling airline security. Instead
of targeting terrorists, we target the last weapon they came up with.
That does absolutely nothing to stop the next weapon.

Guns are designed to kill. Box cutters are designed to open boxes.

Ammonium Nitrate was designed to be fertilizer. What's your point?

Kevin, there is nothing wrong with being righteous. I'm not the one whining and complaining about
guns.

Can a liberal answer a simple question, or must they always resort to personal attacks?

What do you think the university should have done after the shooter
dropped out in his mental health issues? This is a country with very
little in the way of decent public mental health services.

The current answer I am hearing from the victims was that this
evaluation should have immediately been put in the FBI NCIC database
and available to anyone who is willing to look for it, including the
firearms background check.
Unfortunately that would also be available to credit agencies,
employers and insurance companies. (hence the privacy concern)

I'm not sure, but I don't think HIPAA allows that.

Therein lies the problem doesn't it. Public safety vs privacy.

You end up finding yourself in exactly the same position as the NRA
and I am sure you are both uncomfortable there.
Should a doctor or psychologist be able to put an entry in the NCIC
that would block a gun sale and how do you do that without also
telling everyone else why.
It does open up the question, what else would that information be used
for?
Would employers avoid hiring that person?
Would landlords not rent to them?
Would it affect their credit score?
Would they have problems getting accepted to college?
That would, in effect, be like having "a police record" with all the
ramifications that implies.

On any evaluation of mental and emotional competency, intelligence,
accomplishment and compassion for my fellow humans, I would rate much
higher than either of you two failed mooks. Hell, the dumbest cat in our

Guns are designed to kill. Box cutters are designed to open boxes.

Ammonium Nitrate was designed to be fertilizer. What's your point?

Something that's sole purpose in design is killing vs. anything else.

There are about 250,000,000 guns in this country a billion rounds of
ammunition fired, that didn't kill anyone last year.

Amazing ain't it. Then you take your N Western states like Nebraska
The Dakotas, and Montana. They have more guns per capita, and the
least amount of gun laws- AND the least amount of gun crime in the
nation.

go figure.

It was interesting (before I plonked the idiots here) to see jps cry
about all the shootings in red states, but not a word about the ones in
Seattle and other west coast "Blue" areas... It was blatant lying by
omission, kind of like msnbc style "news"...

Not really hard to figure, those states have a very low population
density, that's why crime in general is low.

There is a lot of truth to that. But also there's the notion that
people out there respect each others property and lives. Something you
find uncommon in the larger metro areas.

The last "hate" shooter was in Wisconsin. You have plenty of haters
right there in Maryland. Eastern big city police departments may be
the biggest hate groups in the country

The southern poverty law center, which keeps track of hate groups,
maintains a map that shows the highest concentration of hate groups in
the southern states. It must be a bitch for you to work so hard to find
what you think are these moral equivalencies or in this case immoral
equivalencies of yours.

What does this have to do with the west? That was the original point.

"...The south and the west..." comment. You saw that, right? It has to
do with "...the south." I would guess, though, that the most violent
"militia" groups are in the relatively unpopulated west.

On any evaluation of mental and emotional competency, intelligence,
accomplishment and compassion for my fellow humans, I would rate much
higher than either of you two failed mooks. Hell, the dumbest cat in our
household would score higher on those scales than either of you. I don't

higher than pond scum.

Hardly anyone lives in the Dakotas and Montana.

He qualified that with the term "per capita". Look it up. He also
included Nebraska - the 38th largest by population in the "57" states.
