Had to fix the subject:) Just got back from a private facility where we
finalized a deal on a new (to us) racebike. I can't say much except this
bike was built by one of the best known race shops in the area for a Pro
rider who raced it in four national events then switched to Honda and
put this thing in the basement with seven and a half hours on it...
Lucky Jess races in "unlimited" classes, cause when she lights this
thing up for the first time at the line with it's Betty engine and FMF
bomber pipe, most of the people in the division we race are gonna' have
to clean their pants:)

Kids do enough stupid and dangerous stuff without parental
encouragement.

Frankly, I pretty speechless too, when I see a parent encouraging and
facilitating this sort of dangerous and destructive behavior.

I am saddened and amazed.

At 18, our eldest was in the second full year of college. I hope
JustHate's kid doesn't sustain a serious injury or worse while racing,
not just because of the pain, but because her daddy doesn't have the
financial wherewithal to make her whole again. I've read of kids in that
sport who sustain horrific skull and spinal column injuries, which is a
hell of a thing to risk for a sport that will take you nowhere.

My other daughter backpacked the mountains of Turkey, and lived with
native "tribes" in the jungles of Thiland. Then she hiked the deserts of
Indonesia, studied in England, taught in Japan... All by herself between
the ages of 19 and 25, at 5'5" and 100 pounds. In between times she
diddled in her hobby, rock climbing, and acquired her masters degree.
And probably the most dangerous sport was the last 10 years or so she
lived by herself in downtown DC:) My daughters make decisions and put
them into play over a period of years. As a parent I just can not stand
in the way of that kind of dedication and determination. I am "saddened
and amazed" that you wouldn't do the same for your kids.

When rider was about 8 she spent about two weeks building wings from old
boat building scrap and tried to run back and fourth in the back yard.
She said she was going to fly someday, we never told her any different.
We as parents wondered how long she would spend before she gave up...
Like I said, about 5 sets of "wings" and two weeks later, she moved
on... but never gave up.

Now she is 18 and every once in a while she looks at me and says, "I
told you I would fly".. I tell her, "I knew you would". You will never
understand our family, don't expect you to either.. Just don't judge me
and I won't judge for not dedicating every minute of your life to your
kids...

Proud of a short attention span?

I should put you in touch with one of my daughter's friends, the
quadriplegic ex-motocross racer who's had one complication after another
and recently had a lung removed.

Funny, funny, funny...your denial of reality and your assumption that
everyone who thinks you are a failure as a parent is me. As I said in a
previous post, the *best* thing that can happen to your daughter now is
that she'll find a nice boy with a good job, move in with him, and get
the hell away from you.

Why, do you think we don't know what can happen in our sport? What a
****ing asshole...
