Interestingly, the landscape contractor who does our "heavy" outdoor lifting and landscaping is doing pretty well these days. He and two helpers were here last night, digging up and transplanting a 12' tall tree that wasn't doing too well in a part of our garden, and a few other chores. I've known him for years. He's here legally from Mexico, along with some of his relatives, a number of whom work with him in the family landscaping business. He's paying minimum wage x2 for unskilled laborers, plus he's got some sort of health care plan for his employees. Anyway, he was here for two hours, did with aplomb what we wanted done, and charged me $150, which I thought was very fair. You didn't need to share that with us. It was more bull****. $150 for a crew that is paid double the minimum wage with group health care? They spent that traveling. |
