Harry's dying to get them going again and they ALWAYS make it easy for him to do just that. If you doubt what I'm saying, go look at the posting history. Every year, SSDD. 1. It is true "they" can't let it go. I've been "away" from rec.boats and not posting at all for a couple of weeks at a time now and then, and the morons continue their juvenile games. These boys have nothing else going in their lives so to suddenly stop their bad boy behavior here would leave them with nothing to post. 2. What little interest I have in this newsgroup continues to decline. Hell, I don't even read most of the posts of the assholes here, much less comment on them. There are many other, more interesting venues these days, and these are not packed with right-wing losers and iLoogys. That's true. Harry hardly ever posts here anymore. Maybe thirty or forty a day, but that's a huge drop. He's obviously lost most of his interest in this place. You have to concede Harry his point, as well. During a protracted period of time that (I believe) Harry didn't post here. The anti-Harry faction created numerous sock puppet Harrys just to keep the **** going. Obviously, when Harry got back, he dived back in. When did it not become a civic duty to rub the faces of right-wingers in their stupidity? :) Wayne, obviously, either missed or decided not to take me up on the proposal I offered him. Perhaps I'll make a bet with myself...that even if I refrain from insulting the right-wing morons and the iLoogy moron in the new year, they'll still behave as badly as they always have. I'm pretty sure I'd win that bet. Most of them have no other reason to be here. Herring isn't going to change, and neither are iSnotty, flajim, the latest iteration of "Krueger," flajim, the rest of the turdpack, or the new handle every day boys, and w'hine will still be attempting to troll here. According to the news report they pulled the anchor from the stern after it became stuck. "We put it back on the stern to bring it up and we had power on it and when we had let go, it snatched back and the waves filled the stern up with water" It's not clear if it was a low transom boat or not but it sounds like it might have been. They were saved by their EPIRB and life raft. It is a recipe for disaster to shorten the scope of the anchor line and tug from the stern. Hell, anchoring from the stern isn't a good idea, either, and for them same reasons. I wonder how close to being drug under water the stern was, before the stretchy rode yanked them back. This guy isn't "unlucky", he's just stupid. Maybe be just wasn't thinking with all the calamity? He might have been 'lucky' hundreds of times, but this one really payed off... I definitely would have cut the line. that is if i would have thought about it. I still think these guys took a running start at this, based on what the mate said on TV and when it didn't break the anchor loose they snapped back and sunk the boat. I doubt they had time to cut the line. I'd have cut my line before trying to use the engine to loosen the anchor. I just can't imaging doing that. Pansy! But you wouldn't have stern anchored in the first place anyway. Yup. I'm a pansy. The only time I use a stern anchor is at a boaters' beach. |

I've found out that the type of boating I do, a cement foundation block on an old ski rope is most effective, and if lost, well.... it's easily and economically replaced |

That can make a huge difference at the end of the day if you are pulling this up every hour or so. If you are anchoring in a rocky area and think you will be losing anchors you can make one with #4 Rebar that will bend itself free on a hard tug and if it is really stuck, you are not out much if you cut it free. I have seen them tied up with baling wire but I usually welded them up when I was banging them out for fishermen I knew. You can also put this on an expendable rode. But Greg. The block was standard equipment when I bought the boat.... I know what you're saying if you use it a lot, that would get obnoxious. |

Besides, the CMU more closely fits your image, even though by now you've collected millions from our Nigerian partners. |

Do you carry a spare anchor in case it chafes through the clothes line it's tethered to the boat with. There isn't a red neck marine supply at every bend in the river you know. ;-) |

I just use a danforth type. Small one for the beach, larger one for the bay or deeper water. The small one, four pounder, I think, fits in an old back pack, along with some line. Works great at the beach. |
